Abike Dabiri And X Community Notes On Opposite Ends Of A Freed Nigerian (PICS) by DesChyko(op): 3:43pm On Sep 14, 2024
Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri, took to X to share the post:

"A Nigerian , Emma Ihejirika,on death row for drugs in Indonesia has been FREED. A big thanks to Barrister Emmnauel Isha Ogebe, a Nigerian lawyer based in Washington DC,Usa,who , after our visit to Indonesian prison, took up the case pro bono and won at the Supreme Court 🙏🏿"

This was greeted with congratulations, with even many more wondering how he was able to escape Indonesian deadly laws. It took X Community Notes to clarify that the said individual was actually in prison due to a mistaken identity. He had no connection to the drugs he was imprisoned for. The Community Note read:

The tweet is misleading. Emmanuel Ihejirika was in prison due to a case of mistaken identity. The user has deliberately left that part out.

A lot of Nigerians were quick to call her out for omitting that part deliberately. I would think if that was the case, there was no reason to have left it out since the man was a honest Nigerian whose life was thwarted for no real reason by the Indonesian Government.

I read her X post on this and she was winding the issue of the young man around drug only to mention mistaken identity when she couldn't help.

The good is that the young man didn't die for what he knows nothing about.

I feel so sorry for Abike Dabiri. She’s doing a great job helping Nigerians in diaspora get out of trouble but folks from the south east keep doing everything to disrespect her for no good reason other than her ethnicity.

In the case of the said Ihejerika, she visited him in prison and took up his case with the help of a pro bono lawyer till he was released. Now, see the way Ihejerika’s people are paying her back with hatred and insult. Smh.

She can't stop bitching around, it's very difficult not to be a tribal bigot with idiots like this co existing with u. I thought it was a naija thing until I met her kinds in a far a way land exhibiting the same manipulative tendency to the point that foreigners have to figure out their cowardice and manipulative ways. This is a very serious issue but we just dey see am as tribal shit.

Don't mind the witch. You will see how her downfall will be swift immediately after Tinubu's APC loses election on 2027. Her tribalism will take her to her grave if she's not careful

But why did she not clearly state the reason he was imprisoned, that it was a case of mistaken identity?

He was imprisoned for drug trafficking and not mistaken identity. Mistaken identity is not a criminal offense. His defense that led to his release was mistaken identity. You guys should stop this nonsense abeg.

Abike has a checkered history with tribalism in Nigeria.
This case is about a mistaken ID, but she has to emphasize drug dealing, because it tallies with her previous prejudice about Igbos and drug dealing. Yes, she did a good job with the lawyer and former minister, but she should stop writing trash about anything Igbo, because her prejudice comes out clearly and subliminally.

"He was mistakenly arrested for drug dealing", that's how nations defend their citizens in foreign countries.
She should emphasize how confusing identity issues could be solved for Nigerians overseas. Many Nigerians answer Emeka, Seun, Bitrus, Okon, etc. Foreigners sometimes can't tell one from another. If Abike is not obsessed and possessed by Igbos did this or did that( she wants to cast aspertions on them and show how much better her Yoruba people are) she would have become a true spokesperson for all Nigerians.

What rubbish are you typing. The dude had no drugs on him internally or externally when he was arrested. He was arrested because he looked like someone the Indonesia govt was looking for.
