Amen and Amen. Dele Giwa gave everything for investigative journalism unlike all these David Hundeyin and Jackson Ude.

How bad this administration is making most of us miss the "great economist and administrator in the person of Bubu. A man who was able to hold pump prices of pms under #200 for the most part of his 8-year reign.

It goes to show that if this refinery had come on board under his watch, the pump price of pms would have been slashed by half to say #100... grin grin

..it's competition in the refinery sector that can bring the price down..if we have more other modular refineries producing fuel it will bring competition among the refineries and reduce and bring down the price... that is the only way it can go down

It's competition in the refinery sector that can bring down the price of fuel in Nigeria..if they are other private modular refineries also producing fuel it will create competition among themselves and reduce and bring down the price of the fuel...this is the only way

There are 200 million Nigerians, oil is not going to do for Nigeria what it did for smaller populated countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE.
Manufacturing and Agriculture can propel us even further than those countries.

DeLaRue:
Not 100% correct actually.

The law of demand and supply works perfectly with certain products, but not with others.

It may work well for certain consumer products like tomatoes, water, garri etc

But it doesn't work perfectly for a product like petrol where the manufacturer/producer/seller has a production cost that it can't really influence that much because the price of the input material is determined internationally.

So there is a certain level below which a refinery cannot sell .... at least not for long.

Glaxo, Cadbury etc can operate at a loss in Nigeria for 3, 4, 5 years or even longer before closing down. That's because their operations and therefore losses are relatively small compared to a loss-making refinery.

A loss making large refinery will shut down rather than permanently sell at a loss making cheaper price due to over supply. Or they find markets in other countries.

So the coming on board of Port Harcourt and Warri refinery and other refineries currently being built will not reduce price by more than N5 to N10 or thereabout per litre.
Don't mind my brother..they forgot that such law does not for inelastic goods

Ddeliverer007:
I thought the refinery will make fuel 200naira?

Fools.
I don't mind to buy at #790. My joy is that Nigeria CBN would have enough dollars, since importation of fuel would stop bcoz it used to take 65% of our dollar earnings.

Govt/CBN can now use the available dollar not only to save the fall of Naira but also to help manufacturing sectors to get materials and machinery into the country to grow the economy.

Tinubu might even decide to subsidize petrol bcoz it would be in Naira. It's cheaper to subsidize petrol with Naira than using Naira to subsidize petrol in dollars.

Congratulations anyhow. I know petrol marketers who have been cheating Nigeria and Nigerians, telling lies about the quantity of fuel imported wouldn't like this news.

Let the sales begin smoothly without queues at filling stations first. A government will come in future that will make Nigerians feel that God gives them oil and gas for free.

It's a welcome development. Now I wonder how much the independent marketers will sell to us
It's a good start at least subsidy remains . And the price can only go down as the value of naira increases. I'm very happy that at least the product will flood the market. And remember the Port-Harcourt refinery will start working soon. Once it's privatisation is completed God bless Nigeria
So buying fuel ⛽ at 700plus price is a good deal right?

What's now the essence of the refinery of we're still buying fuel at above 300
In the next 6 months, it will go up to N1000/litre

It's a shame how we got here even with refinery from N200/litre

Do you know how much govt is selling crude oil to Dangote. If the govt is selling crude to Dangote at the current international price, there is no way he can sell petrol cheaper to NNPC. Govt is the one determines everything.
Govt can't sell to him at international rate, no transportation, no forex sourcing etc.

Let Nigerians gather together to break up the hands of those that are devaluing our currency. This is what is causing the problem.

Price of petrol would have been N450 or even N225 per litre if not for the series of devaluation that was carried out in quick succession within a very short period of time.

This is where price control from the presidency is expected to work. Else, the pump price may be hiked by the marketers to up to N1200/litre of petrol. This is Nigeria.

Because they refuse to buy from him. It all has to do with the price. Nigerians should insist on transparency from both NNPC and Dangote. They should tell us the price from the refinery.
When did you and marketers discuss and they told you that they refused to buy from dangote?

Who are the "they" that should tell you the price from the refinery?

I ask again....Up till now and from the topic, are you not aware that dangote is not selling to marketers?

My point is not mainly on oil or relying on one commodity but the plague called corruption, even if the population of Nigeria is 10 million citizens like the UAE , we are likely still going to be in the kind of quagmire Nigeria is currently in at the moment sad
