Edo State, Please Vote For Any Party But Labour on Saturday, September 21, 2024

I urge the people of Edo State to look at Abia State, the only Labour Party-run state in Nigeria. Just recently, Abia State celebrated building its first modern bus stop. Who in their right mind celebrates a bus stop in 2024?

Meanwhile, Benin and the Midwest Region, which later became Bendel, had modern bus stops fifty-eight years ago.

Edo state began paying ₦70,000 minimum wage in May 2024, whereas Abia is struggling to pay even the old minimum wage of ₦30,000 and is owing salaries.

Then, look at the Labour Party itself. In shambles. Factionalised. Neither Peter Obi nor Alex Otti are in control. They have two national chairpersons. When asked to name the authentic Chairperson, Peter Obi said only the Independent National Electoral Commission can do so.

How can you vote for a party suffering from multiple personality syndrome?

Then, look at the matter of transparency in accounting for funds donated to the party. Accusations and counter-accusations. Their accounts are more opaque than the government's finances. At least you know how much the President and his vice are spending. The media can run stories on the finances of the First Lady's travels.

But who can say where the millions of dollars donated to the Labour Party's Presidential campaign went?

No wonder Obi, who once said he would never fly private jets, began flying private jets during and after the campaigns. Edo, do you want your state funds to pay for Peter Obi's private jet soirées?

If the Labour Party cannot manage their own party and finances, if they cannot pay the new minimum wage, if they are celebrating bus stops in 2024, then evidently a vote for Olumide Akpata and the Labour Party on Saturday, September 21, 2024, is a vote for backwardness, division, low wages, and opaque finances.

And then, ask yourselves what Peter Obi and the Labour Party said when some people insulted our beloved Omo N'Oba N'Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II.

Remember that the revered Oba of Benin had to rebuke Olumide Akpata when he falsely claimed to be a "son of the Palace”. Imagine what such a fellow could do if he becomes Governor. He has learnt disrespect for elders and authority from Peter Obi and his cronies.

Vote for Labour and Edo may be the next "no man's land".

Yes, Edo no be Lagos. But it is better for Edo to look like Lagos than to resemble Abia!
