When economic activity slows down, inflation naturally will drop. It happened in the US towards the end of Trump’s presidency due to slow economic activity resulting from Covid. With the high cost of living and extreme hardship in Nigeria, economic activity is beginning to slow down. Inflation is expected to drop, and we all know that this government will use it as propaganda to try to create the impression that their policies are working Notice the recent drop in import export? Traders are slowing down imports because retailers are struggling to restock and demand is dropping from consumers, but this government is already using this concerning trend for propaganda Bunch of propagandists! |

givedemwotowoto:I sense that is already happening. Many have probably depleted their savings trying to keep up with the high prices over almost a year. An economic slowdown likely started even before the EndBadGovernance protest. ![]() |

You have to understand Nigeria's case is peculiar. Inflation won't drop, as long as petrol is sold above 500 naira a liter. |

jmoore:Correct. If a country depends heavily on one commodity and that commodity rises in price, inflation only gets worse. It can stabilise. But to get better? Not likely. |

Economic slow down in Nigeria case is due to high exchange rate which led to inflation and low purchasing power. The only end result is mass unemployment, mass poverty and rising crime. To be on the streets after 10 p.m is dangerous |

nedu666:To slow down is whole idea of fiscal and monetary policies currently being pursued by the Tinubu's government But so long the price of fuel is high the impact of the various policies to control inflation won't be optimal. I think with sustained floating of Naira, Nigeria's export will become cheaper while imports will continue to become expensive. The impact of this will mean incentives to produce locally (export substitution) while discouraging imports. This we lead to exchange rate stability and not necessarily appreciation (checkout the exchange rate of Indonesia and Vietnam). We need courageous leaders who can see the though policies through and not play to the gallery. |
