Nigeria Technically Bankrupt, Says Obaseki by treesun(op): 10:16pm On Sep 19, 2024
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has described Nigeria as technically bankrupt.

Obaseki added that the Federal Government was “stuck in the past” and needed to restructure the country for progress.

The governor made this statement during a one-on-one interview on the Channels Television programme Politics Today on Thursday evening.

Obaseki explained that the country neither had enough nor earned enough to cover its expenditure, adding that government spending was also not decreasing.

He stated that the government must ensure that individual states took advantage of economic opportunities, noting that the Federal Government could not continue to centrally manage resources.

“Nigeria is technically bankrupt. And I mean it. When you are bankrupt anywhere in the world, like in the United States, you file for what they call Chapter Eleven. You restructure your affairs so that you can reorganise and meet your obligations. Nigeria is not restructuring in that sense; it still behaves as if it had money like it used to.

“It (Nigeria) has been in trouble for a while. I won’t say insolvent, but technically so, in the sense that we don’t have enough to cover our expenditure, we are not reducing our expenditure, and we are not earning more.”

“First, the Federal Government does not have the capacity to manage the economy at the scale and in the way it is currently doing. You’re producing 1.3 million barrels of oil, right? Because you are trying to do it centrally. We have 147 oil wells in Edo, and only 53 or fewer are producing.”

“Unless you create a new design that allows the individual states to take advantage of the economic opportunities they have, stressing the assets of this country and paying what they need to pay to the central government, the federal government cannot sit and try to micromanage the country and its assets. It has shown that it cannot. It doesn’t have the capacity to do so,” he said.

He also expressed his belief that the Federal Government was stuck in the past, stating that the current structure of the country was outdated and that a new structure was needed to effectively manage the economy.

“I think for me, it’s like this federal government is stuck, and stuck in the past. Because you cannot resolve a malignant problem using the same tools you have used over the years.

“It’s not that the people there are not smart; it’s not that they’re stupid. It’s more that they just don’t have the courage to make the decisions they need to make.

“The problem with Nigeria today is structural. The structure we have is expired; it’s outdated. We need a new structure to run the economy of the state. If it doesn’t happen, we are not going anywhere,” Obaseki stated.

he shouting Nigeria is broke....but can he tell us what he did with his share of 1.2 trillion naira shared last month?
Re: Nigeria Technically Bankrupt, Says Obaseki by markjam05: 11:07pm On Sep 19, 2024
nothing new in his assertions, we have been saying this for a while.

The FG is micromanaging the economy of 220 millions of Nigerians from Abuja, paying each states certain stipends every month, Hahaha

no wonder high level corruption pervades the Land, people kill themselves to get into positions of power so that they steal and covert the same resources.

meanwhile:
our population grows at a steady 2.5% annually
inflation is about 33%
unemployment rate is about 50-60%
A country that borrows money to fund recurrent expenditure
poor critical infrastructures and yet these Agbada wearing geriatrics wont cut down the cost of governance.

well, 10 years from now we will still be going back n forth with this.

Nigeria will die if it does not innovate. If you doubt me , go and ask UAC of Nigeria.

Re: Nigeria Technically Bankrupt, Says Obaseki by DesChyko:
It's a pity. The truth remains that you cannot give what you don't have. This government came in through the back door, and the actors are as foul minded and anti-people as they come. You cannot begin to expect good things from them. Even the most kind-hearted gestures are Trojan horses. There's always a catch at the detriment of the masses. The most pious of people will have their intentions putrefied once you stick around long enough. Don't take my word for it, compare APC sycophants before and after. That cult churns out the most despicable of humans amongst the populace.

Asher Kines most recently oversaw the unveiling of a borehole project to provide potable water for Amper community in Kanke LGA. This community only knows 3 ground wells since the beginning of time from which they get their water. Now, two months ago, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi of the APC, the House of Rep member who oversees this constituency, gifted his daughter a Lexus RX for graduating secondary school. Compare the cost of this SUV to how many boreholes it can provide for the many communities in this LGA.

Government overspending still remains the chief cause of inflation. We are all in this mess because of the government of the day. You cannot begin to expect good things from them. Even their most kind-hearted gestures are Trojan horses.

The assembly of fake 1st class olodos will rather insult him in their usual pattern of agbero politics instead of accepting that they have failed and rally round support from well meaning Nigerians.

Can you please give us an example on what he did?
Re: Nigeria Technically Bankrupt, Says Obaseki by Ojuntana: 6:01am On Sep 20, 2024
Before stealth mode zombies will come and start saying we're not producing enough is the reason we're broke as he puts it, note the following reasons he gave:
Overbloated expenditure. The FG is spending as if it earns more than enough. And he's not talking of subsidy but jet, yacht, looting, changing naira to dollars just because your wife wants to visit the toilet etc
FG managing resources centrally.
Big elephant. Edo has 147 oil wells but only 53 (less than half) are producing.
FG can't grow the economy as it is and need to restructure the economy to make the states the hubs of economic activities while FG gets royalties from each state instead of giving them stipends every month.
Lastly and most importantly, this administration does not have the courage or focus to do what is right for the economy to grow. They're simply doing the same thing Bubu did and wrecking havoc in the process. When will Tinubu institute true federalism as he preached ceaselessly in the years he wasn't associated with the centre. It seems his story is that of a man who can fry akara to perfection with his mouth

Ask that failure how he has managed Edo State's resources in the past 8 years.
Ask him now much me met as IGR and how much it is now.
How many unpaid pensioners did he meet upon assumption of office and how many they are today.
Are you aware that pensioners protested under this fellow as Governor?

If with this your reasoning, you are the fastest spermatozoa of whoever produced you, I wonder how the others are.

Make Obaseki president today, it’s excuses you’ll keep hearing

The current government made more noise when others were in power.

Nothing has been done about it as how, do you know how many people are advising the presidency already?

It's technically crazy and myopic to be increasing cost of government instead of decreasing when you don't have enough resources to cover your expenditures.

This is the truth and nothing but the truth.
I remembered when Buhari was printing money here and there and Obaseki was shouting and warning them, they said he was fighting the president.
Obaseki was the first to.predoct that dollars will reach above 1k and people were insulting him, today he has been vindicated.
