CBN To Pump ₦1.4trn Cash Into Circulation by nlfpmod(mod): 8:54am On Sep 25, 2024
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says N1.4 trillion will be distributed in the next three months to aid cash flow within the banking system.

Olayemi Cardoso, CBN governor, spoke on Tuesday during a press conference in Abuja.

Speaking on the issue of cash insufficiency in most bank’s automated teller machine (ATM), Cardoso said the apex bank is working closely to ensure that there is sufficient cash in the system.

According to the CBN governor, banks do not have any excuse not to dispense cash.

Another N1.4 trillion is likely to be delivered in another three months to aid that whole process of cash within the system,” he said.

“So from our perspective, we are doing everything possible to ensure that there is sufficient cash in the system. There is no excuse for not having sufficient cash in the system.

“Now it goes to the deployment of that cash and quite frankly, we are working very, very closely, we are engaging with all the deposit money banks to ensure that they are putting these things through their ATMs, effectively dispensing cash to those that are in need.

“And whether they are in need or not, that’s the function of the deposit money banks. And at all points in time, there should be sufficient cash in their system that nobody should go there without being able to withdraw.”

CBN TO SANCTION BANKS NOT DISPENSING CASH

Cardoso said a monitoring system has been put in place to check the services of the banks.

He added that there will be sanctions if any bank fail to dispense cash.

“We ourselves, have devised a monitoring system, a spot-checking system, whereby we will go to the banks and just ensure that these things are done in the way and manner in which they are meant to be done,” he said.

“And if they are not, again, there will be sanctions but I believe that at the stage we are in now, everybody realises that stakeholders play their part in ensuring that cash gets to the desired places they are intended to be.”

Late last year, there were cases of cash scarcity.

On November 2, 2023, the apex bank said the scarcity experienced in some locations was due to a high volume of withdrawals from its branches by banks and panic withdrawals by customers from ATMs.

The CBN also said there was sufficient stock of currency notes for economic activities in Nigeria and assured its branches across the country were working to ensure seamless cash circulation in their respective states of operation.

I don't get it,I thought they said they are trying to reduce the excess money in circulation so as to curb inflation. They keep hiking interest rates to achieve that.

And now they come out to say they are trying to ensure enough cash in circulation.

I don't understand. No wonder kperogi called cardoso an "Airhead"

It's really a pity and painful to see some people in this forum having hope in anything wey our politicians go talk. See eeh, all these people (politicians) are the same bunch. Majority of the policies they give na wetin go favour dem 90% and favour the masses just 10%.
If you know how these people sold Buhari to us in 2015, you go think say we go become Dubai in the next 3yrs.
After then, they came with the present president and I'm not yet seeing anything tangible. Now I ask myself say "if Tinunbu could have done awesomely well in Lagos, why can't he replicate those good things in Nigeria as a country? "
See eeh, there's something that's happening that majority of us may not know from the outside.
What do I even know sef aside enlightening my fellow men nationwide with the good news

If only this can be allocated wisely this is able to give 50 million people 30 thousand Naira each.

The government should device a way to pay all Nigerians at least 30 thousand naira a month.

These moneys should be directly paid to the individuals and they should be assigned to Private businesses and supervised around were they live.

Some Nigerians don't necessarily need money, if you can provide them with value for money, cheap housing, cheap petrol, cheap food etc.
Nigerians are proud people, we don't like handouts, but make the effort required to achieve basic necessities of life commensurate with reasonable achievements

Nigerian Bankers would rather divert the cash to POS Operators that would reward them handsomely than to drop it in the ATM machine.

Jesus Christ! Does this guy have basic knowledge of economics at all? You want to pump 1.4 trillion raw cash into the economy. Does he know what that will do? That's going to overheat the economy. A very massive sugar high in an economy flush with cash of limited value.
The CBN is chasing shadows. Whatever happened to giving the naira value? Cardoso is simply an idiot.
Re: CBN To Pump ₦1.4trn Cash Into Circulation by lhurd: 9:08am On Sep 25, 2024
Why are they pumping cash into circulation again? Won't this worsen the inflation rate and further degrade the nairas value.
