The Federal Government has approved the increase of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to N77,000 with effect from July 2024.

The increment is N7,000 above the new national minimum wage.

This was contained in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the chairman of the commission, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

The latest increment, according to a press statement by the Acting Director Information and Public Relations of NYSC, Caroline Embu, was in line with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which pegs minimun wage of workers at N70,000.

The statement said, “Prior to this, the Director General, NYSC Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had paid an advocacy visit to the Chairman in which he solicited for a robust welfare package for Corps Members.

“The NYSC Boss is thankful to the Federal Government for the timely gesture and is optimistic that it will not only bring much needed succour to the Corps Members, but also boost their morale and motivate them to do even more, in their service to the nation.”

LEADERSHIP reports that before the increment, the monthly allowance for Corps Members was N33,000, being the old national minimum wage.

If I could just go back to serve again and collect 77k, 77k plus current peanut will go long way at least 'cause shege just too much for person these days

Naira keeps depreciating every day, very soon petrol will hit 2k a litre will this ease the suffering. We don't need this peanut and palliatives, make petrol affordable let the price of foodstuffs come down so people can afford to feed

NYSC is even more lucrative job than full time teaching these days.
How man private school can pay their staff #75 k in Ogun, Bayelsa, delta, ekiti, Enugu, abia or cross river not to mention middle belt states.
There is serious underemployment in the country.

Mudu of beans was 600-700 last year, it is now 3700-4000 this year. What about fuel? Rice? Garri? Crate of egg?

Omo 33k last year is far better that this 77k.

when i was serving in jigawa state from kano to jigawa was 1200 now its 3500 indomie was 150 now its 400. this 77k is lessthan that 33k we collected. Nigeria is finished and gone to the DOGS
