He probably has affiliation with the present regime, this is the only tangible explanation.

Trust me, The man being a physician has got everything planned out before making this move.
He came back to save your failed ass ..... people like you and your family deserve good health services too.... because of money 💰 all well trained Nigeria doctors left for abroad taking care of Oyinbo citizens...while their parents and families who sent them to school dies everyday because of paucity of good doctors...is life all about money?

And he told you he relocated to do Nigeria a fovour.
Of course he'd be doing well. If you decide to borrow/embezzle/credit card all the money you can because you know you won't be around you'd be doing very well
A top surgeon and Chairman of his Hospital Medical Group.
Lol. He came back to Nigeria with his family, set up Neurosurgeon Hospital and still regularly visit the US.
The point is that as you grow older your values changes and the desire to do something in your home country grows.

Life is not all about money 💰

But since when did Nigerians start showing patriotism, individual sacrifice for one's nation, selflessness? Such traits are as rare as radium among Nigerians.

He has seen it all and he decided to pick what's best for him.
I am not anti japa but I will still say it without fear. If I have enough money that would cover all my "japa expenses" I would stay back in Nigeria and invest the money. I am familiar with Nigeria and it will be easy for me to do so many things here than a foreign land.

Last year I had the opportunity to travel abroad I told the person to invest the money in a business for me here, since he is also doing well in Nigeria without traveling abroad to hustle, he refused to give me any money or even invest it for me in a business. I told him I wasn't interested in traveling, that I can't be slaving away in a foreign land, living in fear or foreign laws that are anti black (no matter how nice they paint it) plus leaving all the people I cherish behind was something I can't imagine.
He kept his money and I thanked him for offering to help.

I don't think what you did is wise. There is nothing wrong in exploring. You just go out and explore. You go out and try new things. If the way you are thinking is the way everyone thinks this world won't be a good place to live in. All the things you are using today were discovered and innovated by people who tried new ways of doing things, and that is how this world was developed and keep improving

Remember that true wealth is not measured by the money or assets you have, but by the number of wealthy people that you created.

I don't expect you to trust me, Nigerians made sure we live in fear and suspicion of one another.

The system will drain you at the end of the day!

You can never win the US government. The more you win, the more you hip burdens on your head.

Just a little slip in your finances, and you will see all returning back to the government.

The illusion most people believe about the west is not really it. Everyone is a slave to the government. They own everything and you own nothing even when you feel you purchased it.

Get the citizenship, make that money and get out as fast as you can.

Did your friend depend solely on the earnings from his businesses in Nigeria? Or was his capital not so patient?
Second Nigerian business. First business was Oil related and was doing very good. They decided to veer into health care as a secondary business. Primary income was coming from the Oil related business. Tried every "trick" in the book to keep costs and ultimately prices down. But even with "intelligent" pricing, demand was atrociously low. They had burnt through investor capital and had to call it a day. Business was located in Lekki which was supposed to be able to afford it. Still do dice

Takeaways:

He left the land of six million genders grin

He worked at John Hopkins, so he's well off financially

Well said. Good for him. Besides, he'll probably be hopping to and fro the US as frequently as he wishes. Can always go back permanently if he wishes.

Debater:
So you're insulting someone who decided to move back to his country away from the land of gun violence, six million genders, and hyper-inflation?

He worked at John Hopkins, definitely he won't have any financial concerns in Nigeria. And Nigeria is his homeland, those calling him mad may be more stupid.

It’s not patriotism. It’s the system that dawns on them over time and forces them back home. The system will make you be on your toes till you die. Some later realize they don’t want that kind of life.

A life where you have it at the back of your mind that you could lose all your wins in an unfortunate instance.

That system got no mercy! It traps you in debt, and even when you think you out, it keeps bilking you based on the appreciations and valuation of your assets. When you don’t meet up, it’s gone!

Nigerians in US, do you feel safer traveling the road in US or in Nigeria?

People that think like you don't go far, but it's okay. It's just life. If you're happy where you are, that's perfectly fine. But for everyone else reading your comments, beware that this mentality is not for people who want more from life. If you want more from life, be eager to leave your comfort zone.

Kidnappings don't occur there. Ask Nigerian there, they'd tell you they feel 1000% safer there.

I myself repeat, nobody comes back to Nigeria because they're trying to do Nigeria a favour!

Kidnapping and many crazy things happens here in the States on a daily basis. America is no different.
Re: JAPA: Nigerian Man Returns Back To Nigeria With His Family To Start Afresh (vid) by Gerrard59(m): 3:33pm On Sep 26, 2024
There is nothing new in what he did. It is what every Nigerian elite has done. It is the quintessential Nigerian dream - study, work and obtain foreign residency then move back to Nigeria. As I stated here: https://www.nairaland.com/7482300/importance-acquiring-second-passport-young#119276976 Almost every Nigerian elite, whether public or private, has a second passport. They studied and worked abroad. You and I are no different.

It is a good thing he returned anyway, but he is not the first and won't be the last. More than ten years ago, Nigerians in the diaspora returned in large numbers - especially the UK and US. They set up businesses and were proud of "giving back to the country". Then in 2015, they conspired to campaign and vote for Buhari as he told them - so-called intellectwats - that he would phight kwarruption. Foolishly, they supported his bid. After his enthronement, they fled again. Now, they have to make do with the rise in far-right movements, eligibility advances on their children and nodding their kon kon heads to the white man. The same white man some of them were angry at.

Best wishes to the doc.

you are the local one here. A doctor with john Hopkins hospital is surely not a poor person. Would be making over 300k usd a year.

Nigeria is where loads of money is yet we are the poverty capital of the world . Keep deceiving yourself
That is the cognitive dissonance about making money in Nigeria. If money can be made so much and quickly, how come there is so much poverty? It does me somehow in the brain sha.

the issue is many Nigerians living in Nigeria and hasn't traveled outside usually believe that Nigeria is the worst place to live, so they see anyone coming back as a mad person. but usually, people who have stayed long abroad are the ones who see the opportunities in Nigeria and they are always eager to come back if they have the hance,
This reminds of the conversation amongst my secondary schoolmates where I and another in the US eulogised about the business opportunities in Nigeria. One had to interject saying "na now wey una comot una remember say opportunities dey. How come una no see am when una dey Nigeria?". grin

what many do not know is it is only in virgin places like Africa that you can carve out a name for yourself fast and be noticed easily.
Agreed.
there is vast opportunities for investment here in Nigeria and Africa as a whole
So, how come so much poverty?

If I return back to Nigeria, I am not returning to start afresh unless I was deported.

By the way, lots of people all over the world do this.

1) He came back to setup up a business that has high demand as Nigerians spend over 2 trillion naira yearly ( my estimate from data online ) on seeking Medical care abroad so an overseas based specialist coming here to do the job people travel.for would be cheaper and even people from abroad can come here for cheaper services
