President Tinubu is reportedly considering appointing Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as minister.

According to reports, Tinubu will sack some ministers in the next couple of days and this development has led to widespread panic among members of the Federal Executive Council.


“Some of the appointees will go for non-performance while others will be dropped because of certain actions they took which were regarded as not good enough,” a villa source told Nigerian Tribune.

The source said Nigerians should watch out for whatever “may happen on the Independence Day.”

Apart from Kwankwaso, another opposition politician that may get a ministerial appointment is Senator Shehu Sani. Sani left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in October 2018 and declared for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Very competent sources said the president had consulted widely on his desire to bring fresh hands on board his government with a hand of fellowship extended to certain politicians who are outside the fold of the APC.

“Kwankwaso is being seriously considered for the appointment. His greatest asset is his Kwankwasiyya Movement and the hold the group has over the millions of voters in Kano.

“Ironically, it is the same strength which he has that those opposed to him are using to kick against his coming into the Tinubu government. They think he may spring a surprise by quitting the government at the last minute to contest for the presidency in 2027. The president is, however, said to be seriously considering offering him the appointment,” one of the sources said.

A source close to the presidency however, said on Friday that about eight ministers may be dropped although almost all the appointees are angling to know who and who might be affected by the presidential action.

“As the incumbents are working hard to be retained, politicians outside the government are also lobbying persons believed to have the ears of the president for them to come in. The president is, however, keeping his game very close to his chest,” he said.

No doubt, bringing in Kwakwanso is strategic because of the bloc votes in Kano and his political influence in Kano. That's how to play politics. Bring in your opponents to your fold and weaken them.

But then, T-pain is use.less and clueless.

This is a good strategy to build political capital for 2027. I believe that he will engage them in dialogue and eventually reach a consensus on the right ministry for him.

Possibly a smokescreen because he is too big for that unless he wants to end his polical career, his supporters and northerners are vehemently against this demonic regime unless they have promised him to be the big guy come 2031 but then this will also result to in-house fighting considering shettima and gandollar are gunning for it as well.

Changing his Ministers after about a year of his ascension to power is a trait of a President that is willing to deliver.

Nigeria currently needs a very vibrant Economy Minister, Edun is too dull for that post. We seriously need someone that can marshal good fiscal policies that will bring succor to the masses.

Kwankwaso is a bride. Shehi Sani has zero political capital to bring to the table. Tinubu should be more strategic in appointing people with considerable political strength. He has a very low rating now. Presently in Anambra, he has no strong personality in APC that soludo should be scared off. He has to fling off that irascible Kennedy woman and bring in a strong APC person on board since ifeanyi ubah is no more.

Stop wailing cos Ganduje is the national chairman. Tinubu can get them close rank and became friends again. Be worry about ellupee party that can't unite as little as they are. Am not a fan of Tinubu and I pray he should resolve the NNPLC and Dangote issues so that PMS can be reduced. He knows the nitty gritty of politics.
