Claim: The minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu claimed that over 40% of power customers in Nigeria enjoy over 20 hours of power supply.

He said "The major achievement is the fact that today we generate over 5,500 megawatts of power, we transmit and distribute it, and over 40 percent of customers today enjoy over 20 hours of regular power supply across the nation. You can see that there is a significant improvement between when we came in and now, which we intend to improve further”.


Verification The minister said that Nigeria is generating over 5,500 megawatts.

More than 20 hours of power supply applies to only band A.

What you describe is impossible because Nigeria is still not generating and distributiing more than has previously been reported all this time. So you need to narrow your frame a whole lot. .

This is not Juju science we are talking here. If your area has improved it means someone else's area has experienced a decrease in light supply at the same time. What you are enjoying is the suffering for other Nigerians -- others will need a be deprived in order for you to enjoy. So going all out to claim that power has improved in Nigeria is a rather simplistic claim when Nigeria has not recorded any improvement as far as generation and distribution in all this time.

I was disappointed yesterday watching one chairman of electricity consumer something something on Arise TV on Aladeh 8pm program.He was asked severally and was unable to provide data contrary to what the minister said.He was asked to go back home and do assignment and will be invited back to come give his findings

I agree with this post. In our area where they ratio the light, when the other area has an issue and so they don't switch on theirs and leave ours on until their problem is solved, our area people would start to celebrate NEPA for improvement only for us to return to status quo once the other's issue is resolved. Nigeria is a comedy zone😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

It is common sense to debunk the minister statement. 5,000 megawatts should be an allocation for the entire Lagos state. That's what is being shared by the whole country and someone comes out to claim 40% of 180 million people are enjoying over 20 hours of power supply. Pathetic indeed.

Unfortunately the guy is right.

In my opinion his 15% is even an over estimation.

We are 220 million people relying on 5500 mw. No way we can have 40 percent of that on 20 hours power supply.

For jols, Lagos metropolitan area needs something like 10000 mw for 24 hours power supply a day. And that was around 2010.

The stakeholders say we need minimum of 33000 mw for all currently connected to the grid to get power.

At the end, if everyone pays market price for power we will get there. Not this one where less than 20% of customers are doing so, and 40% or more kukuma don't pay

5000 mw is even too small for Lagos. Lagos needs 10000 mw even

That is what Nigeria has been doing for almost 30-something years now. It has refused to invest heavily in building new power generation facilities but has instead resorted to playing psychological 419 games on its customers. And Nigerians keep celebrating nonsense ignoring the fact that no progress is being made in all of this.
