bassdow:@ the bolded... In what sense exactly do you mean when you say you use WP as a framework for your code-based site...? And yes, you do have a point, WP is still ok, but I wouldn't use it for any site with sensitive data like e-commerce sites, that's just me. |

santaclaws:Normally, by default, I dislike using wordPress BUT there are times it's just what's needed for the project (mostly small projects). In such situations, rarely do I use wordPress as CMS, rather I use them as frameWork hence I write raw PHP on top of it and depending on complexity, might not use wordPress hooks and filters and wp_post table sef. Already built a starter template on top of WordPress during my early years as web Developer hence when the need arises, I just clone and continue. that way, no need for plugins and theme hooks and filters BUT when used, only a very few of them would work as the site ends up being almost 100% pure PHP hence every WordPress application ends up being more custom than if it were done the normal way. You're free to update the Wordpress install BUT should you install any plugin, e go hardly work as even a lof of filters and actions are no longer available. Only way to revert to normal WordPress behavior is to uninstall the custom theme. Just before you say one would lack a lot of things; most needed things already are part of the starter theme I built and that's includes basic & advanced cache. now to your question, when I say "as frameWork" , I meant using WordPress as foundation, then building on top of it with no libraries and the likes. if complex plugins such as wooCommerce is required, the client has option of either paying more to have that functionality replicated OR I make wooCommerce work by allowing a select number of filters and hooks. Even those hooks ain't really required most times sef. in fact wetin go make you know say na WordPress na mostly the admin area. major reason I don't like wordPress by default is it gets in the way when you really want to build something custom. For those who just need point and click, WordPress is perfect enough for them. |

bassdow:Now I get what, what you mean... You just build around the template to avoid too much background work... Correct guy 👊🏾 |

Imperare:Inventions are done to make life easy and not difficult. WordPress is created to make web development easy for web developers and there's no shame in using it In software engineering, there's an acronym call DRY meaning Don't Repeat Yourself Why create your own programming language when there are plenty of options to choose from if it suit your needs? Why create a common website designs from scratch when there are tools for you to use which does the job efficiently and fast? I'm definitely sure you're not in the tech field hence the ignorant comment |

mekleelex200:Una own na to dey yarn opata no be say una know anything See your face like template programmers What does laziness has to do with using a well and tested invention that does a job fast and efficient?? An invention that according to stats powers more than 80% of websites in the internet With the thinking you have, you'll advice someone to go create his own programming language so he/she could do data science and analytics tasks when he/she could just learn an already existing tools like Python, Julia, Scala to do the job? It baffle me how una dey comment with una incomplete knowledge to seem knowledgeable in tech field |

santaclaws:not just building around the template. I ditch almost all things WORDPRESS including filters and actions, and global variables. Just pure PHP. Wordpress only takes charges mostly on admin area. Even the wp_posts table and most other core WordPress default tables are rarely used. Even the WordPress menu is heavily cached that it's only refreshed on EDIT and access from cache using raw PHP. More like a headLess WordPress but still on Wordpress. Means even the WP_Query class, the global $wp_query variable and lots of others gets completely disabled. In fact WordPress ain't even given any chance to run at all except you're accessing the admin area. These were the things I did before completely moving away from PHP. I still right PHP though either via my own custom frameWork, or via WordPress if need be. All about using the right tool for the right task |

mekleelex200:It's not laziness; it's about simplifying one's task. What's the essence of building from scratch when Wordpress simplifies almost everything you can do with HTML and CSS? You can even modify WordPress source codes to deploy any features you want to get when you build from scratch. WordPress has come to stay. |
