Pet bottles cannot be banned in Nigeria. Even more developed countries have not banned it, instead they are collected, recycled and used for other products.
I watched a documentary where pet bottles when recycled are used for road construction in Singapore.

Nonsense and banning everything!!
First thing that came to.my mind, recycle, why can't they make provision for recycling rather than outright ban..

One of the problem with us is that we don't know how to manage waste.
Re: Lagos Government Bans Pure Water From January 2025 by Eagleways: 9:01pm On Oct 03, 2024
Government that cannot fix any street road is banning pure water.

I Love it . We are teaching Gbadebo Rhode Vivor a bitter lesson

It is actually brilliant and it's effect is positive on the environment and their livelihoods.
Single Use Plastics are more expensive and the social cost is becoming unbearable to the rest of us not in the sectors profiting from the use of SUPs. The sachet water has since outlived its usefulness and has turned to complete nuisance apart from making water more expensive.
These old archaic environmental practices need to give way and I am profoundly proud that my Lagos State is taking the lead.

The waste has started reducing since the ban on Styrofoam and once we sort out the SUP of bottled water and waste sachet from pure water, we would have solved a huge environmental and economic problem.

The bottled water can come in cheap reusable plastics while sachet water will suddenly become more expensive so the stakeholders now earn more margins as more people move to bottled water.

Jan 2025 is long enough advance notice and I urge the stakeholders to cooperate with the Lagos State Government.

This is the best time to invest in Lagos. Invest in Lagos for great returns on your investment and best investor-friendly experience in Nigeria and Africa.

This is the most ridiculous news I have read today.

You didn’t provide pipe borne water, no tap water, and yet you are banning the not-to cheap source of clean drinking water from the majority of your residents.

Someone should remind him that in recent past we used to drink “ice water” until NAFDAC came up with this semi regulated industry of Pure Water Sachets and bottle water. If they ban both, especially pure water, they better pass water to every home in Lagos.

Also, no body is considering the health implications, only environment. Diarrhea and dysentery used to be so common, lol.

Please expound on the emboldened. Particularly its commerciality, viability, portability (health implication of its usage) and also citing examples. We are here to learn.

Re: Lagos Government Bans Pure Water From January 2025 by kenmaro:
Nigerian government and politicians restructuring in reverse. The effective way in any system is to provide a sustainable alternative taking the poor and low income earners into consideration before implementing a new policy or ban. Nigerian government have not provided clean pipe borne water to every home reach and they are quick to ban pure water just because they can afford bottled water. Can a minimum income earner with a family of 4 afford bottled water for daily home use?

You're very right. A friend of mine traveled to Sweden many years ago for football trial and he had to pick pet bottles in order to raise money for him to buy things back home. In fact he said there is a machine that calculates everything pay instantly. Our government needs to learn a lot

You hardly see plastic waste these days, some persons have taken it as means of survival, picking plastics anywhere, Lagos govt should think it through, creating recycling plants should make more economic sense.
Re: Lagos Government Bans Pure Water From January 2025 by Angelfrost(m): 9:11pm On Oct 03, 2024
Instead of banning this on the basis of environment pollution, why not find ways to ensure proper sanitation and disposal...!

It's not like you guys have in place a better alternative for the citizens as well as a solution for the job losses looming.

Good one. They should ban all plastic bags AKA nylon.
