You're wrong, no matter how big of a director you're if you're given a large sum of money to make a movie and you don't get it back- the studios are going to ghost you no matter how successful your films have been- it could be forever or for a long time
Damien Chazelle's films have been very successful and big money makers from tiny budgets but immediately Babylon flopped- studios ghosted his ass and now he has to settle for tiny budgets.🤷🏽‍♂️ That's just how the movie business works. If joker flops, he'll never be given the chance to work with that amount of money again. So if a 'Bleep u' was his plan, it may not work out for him
I disagree with this.... There's a good number of instances where directors have still gotten jobs despite flopping bad.

A living working director is Ridley Scott. Man has underperforming and flop movies littered across his career in Kingdom of Heaven (2004), Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)..... The Last Duel(2021) and Napoleon (2023) both being catastrophic back to back flops with both costing $100mn & $200mn respectively and yet he's still getting top gigs.
In fact, his new film Gladiator II this December is rumoured around $250mn.

Essentially, I'll posit this to say it depends on your directorial pedigree. There are big directors and top directors....still everybody get him grade.

Then there's Martin Scorsese who got about $200mn for Killers of The Flower Moon. Denis Villeneuve had a catastrophic flop in Bladerunner 2049 in 2017 yet he was rewarded by WB with two DUNE movies with similar big budgets.

Although I still agree with you that I can see Todd Philips for getting punished with the aftermath of Joker 2 if it outrightly flops. Still, its not set in stone for any big time director.

Lol, where I said it was doing $1bn?? grin grin

All this one no dey move me....cos when my predictions actually come right and good none of you dey celebrate or congratulate for my predictions.

I no hear anything when I accurately predicted Bad Boys Ride or Die box office gross. When all
of you shout say BARBIE go too flop last year, I stuck to it and it became the highest grossing film of the year. Same $700mn+ range for DUNE 2 I no see my praises. Same for Despicable Me 4.
So make no nobody disturb me on the rare occasion my prediction no sup....that's why it's a prediction. Besides I was doing all these predictions with little to no data.

Say what you may but none of you dared to say Joker 2 will flop. So make you keep quiet cos you've already seen the answers written on the wall.
You waited till you saw results while I made a bet without data. So you essentially don't have anything to say. Other than gloat wey no go move me sef. 😂

The only person wey fit follow me talk for here na Illusioneffect, asides him make Una go rest.
Yes. I actually wanted Barbie to flop. Personal bias. But you predicted right for Barbie.

However, once I saw that Joker 2 was going to be part musical, I knew it would flop.

SALEM'S LOT......5/10

Very middling movie with hardly any stakes, no development for the characters, couldn't really care about them. It also has a nonsensical feel with a lil kid just having the guts to kill vampires at will as if he's a seasoned pro; just cos he's read some stupid comic books about Vampires. Are this people thinking anyone would really buy that shït? Funny thing is the kid actor is still somehow the best character as the rest and the protagonist were just lazying about with mediocre nonchalant and uninspiring performance.

No history about the town, or the Vampire or the inhabitants. Just straight up killing and action — which are actually the only redeeming theme about it despite being shallow and faulty.

They just slapped vampire on it and called it a day. I can hardly even feel the horror theme those w@nkers led me to believe in the trailer. And what's with the glowing crosses? Just took off the seriousness for me.

Na wetin Stephen King true true write be dis?? 😳😳

Now I see why Zaslav didn't want to waste anymore money on marketing for theatrical release. No wonder I seriously slept off and struggled just after the 30th minute. I've always wondered how come this movie finished production since 2022 and wasn't released. Straight up dumping to streaming.

You can't compare this directors too any other guy. If a Nolan movie flops, he'll still get funding the next week. They're incomparable- that's just a 5% to other directors so you can't say I'm wrong just because of class directors.
Even Denis Villeneuve - in an interview he said the studio actually almost dumped him and he said the two reasons they didn't is because they were trying to gamble on Dune and Denis who has a personal relationship with a WB exec had always been poised to direct one right from the start of the career.
You gave me just 3 names - I can name hundreds.

Joker 2 makes history as the first CBM ever to recieve a D cinema score

Congratulations to WB, Todd Phillips and everyone involved in this mess.

This movie will go down as one of the worst comic book movies of all time
By the way.......

Your analysis about big directors with flops is missing something.

Some big directors like Ridley Scott have massive hits compared to.their flops. What I am saying is that one of Ridley Scott's hits can cover for 10 flops.

Alien, Bladerunner and Gladiator have made Ridley Scott a household name and an untouchable. Do you know how many billions these three movies have as intellectual properties?

This is one side to a coin. I can also show you numbers where it's doing well.

What you're saying and what I'm seeing on the net even pushes me the more to go and see it for myself and make my opinion of it....cos what I'm seeing looks like bandwagon mentality and unnecessary hate.

While I agree it's having very bad US domestic numbers so far.... it's doing decently in Europe.

This one also has a China release date the first one didn't. So that might help.
It even has $20,000,000 in domestic gross.

2/10.

It begs the question why was this movie even made.
The most obvious cash grab ever. There was absolutely no need for a sequel. The idea for part one was "fresh" and ended well, this stood no chance of been good.

Correction: Ridley's Bladerunner movie in the 70s was a massive flop too. Same as Denis Villeneuve latest iteration.

Stephen King's novels are on the most parts, bestsellers. If you found Salem's Lot boring, then the fault is in the writing and editing, not with the source material.

I actually enjoyed madame webb more than this vomit of a movie. It was actually funny
I don't think Madame Webb is as bad as people are making it out to be. It's not as good as some other Marvel movies I've seen, but it's not terrible either.

It was only a cinematic flop. It became a cult classic on VHS.

Note that bladerunner had two things that affected its box office- ignorant critics and it was released close to other blockbusters: Conan the Barbarian, ET and Star Trek.

You'd see there's some level of sarcasm, no?
It's well known filmmakers struggle to translate Stephen King books on screen.

Oh, it's a struggle indeed. He is a very cerebral writer and his stream of consciousness is challenging to follow if you are not used to his style. That's why I will always admire the screenwriters who managed to adapt 'It'. Over one thousand pages. Phew!

The movie really annoyed me.
Book readers have been telling me it's probably the scariest Stephen King book of all. And I went in premiumly anticipating a good chill.
Imagine actually planning on downloading this in 720/1080p so I can watch on my laptop to fully take in the horror. Just glad I just went with my guts with 480p and didn't waste my data much. A massive let down.

Seems I've been lenient with my scores lately cos na 4/10 I go slap am.

Anyways, I'll wait for the next Stephen King adaptation for next year when Mike Flanagan debuts "The Life of Chuck". And the TV series adaptation of The Dark Tower later in the future.
