Chaos erupted at the Obio Akpor Local Government Council Headquarters in Rivers State as heavy gunfire was reported, with thugs allegedly taking control of the premises.

The violence was intended to prevent the newly appointed chairman from assuming office.

News360 Nigeria had earlier reported that Eleme, and Ikwerre Local Government Council secretariat were also set on fire in early hours of today.

Security personnel were also seen in the premises trying to repel the armed men.

This incident highlights the ongoing instability in some parts of Rivers State, especially regarding local government politics, where power tussles frequently lead to violent confrontations.
