University Of Calabar Suspends HOD For Altering Examination Result Scripts by Nobody: 6:23am On Oct 10, 2024

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended one of its lecturers, Joseph Akpan, over alleged misconduct.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Florence Obi, disclosed on Wednesday in Calabar.

She said the suspended lecturer allegedly altered 235 examination result scripts using his privileged position as Head of Department (HOD) of Pharmacology.

The VC added that Akpan allegedly altered students’ scores in the Introduction to General Antimicrobial Pharmacology (PHM 311) course results.

She claimed that as HOD, Akpan altered the scores in 235 result scripts out of the 242 result scripts entrusted in his care.

“The lecturer also (allegedly) gave out marks to two students, who did not participate in the examinations,” she said, adding that only five scripts were genuinely marked without alteration.

The VC alleged that Akpan admitted the misconduct before the Senate Examination Misconduct Committee, (SEMC).

According to her, the lecturer allegedly admitted that he inflated the scores of students in PHM 311 to protect the image of the department, which management finds ridiculous and unacceptable.

“Consequently, the management of the University has directed that he should be relieved of his appointment as HOD and Coordinator of PHM 311, as well as suspended from duty with effect from Oct. 8, 2024.

“Akpan’s official responsibilities are to be reassigned to other qualified lecturers in the department.

“He has also been directed to stay away from the university forthwith unless while responding to the invitation of relevant committees,” she said.

You understood this well.
I guess it is one of those courses that only 3 students passed.
As the HOD, he wasn't supposed to do that instead call the lecturer to order that he is not doing his job well. You cannot have 300 students for instance and only 10 pass. It should not be acceptable.

One of the duties of the HOC/Class rep. then is to write the names and matric Nos of everyone in the class!

And then to collect bribes to passed to some lecturers!

In the end maybe you can get a "B"!

May all those lecturers who collect bribes in cash or cum perish from the system ASAP if they don't repent!

Imagine billing each student just 10k each. If 240 pay that is 2.4m. E even small sef, I thought it will be 24m lipsrsealed

Better to be greedy and make it 100k each. Na that one sure pass. 24milla!
Haba, but 24m no fit buy 2016 highlander. Persin need 40m to ride that moto (money to take build house).
Student fit pay 200k each? huh

I have never been to Unical before but I can tell you for Free; That lecturer na one of those people wen want make he good for everybody but some people with Bad mind no like things like that so dem kukuma victimize the Man.
