Dangote Refinery Operates Petrol Pricing In Secrecy, Says Petrol Retailers, PETROAN

The President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Billy Gillis-Harris, has asked Dangote Refinery to stop operating in secrecy regarding the pricing of petrol.

It urged the management of the refinery to be open and get inputs from stakeholders.

The Dangote Refinery is an oil refinery owned by Dangote Group. Aliko Dangote, a Nigerian businessman and industrialist, is the Chairman of Dangote Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa.

Gillis-Harris said this during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday.

“Regarding Dangote price, as I speak to you this morning, I don’t know what Dangote price is all about and that is speaking a lot because at this point on Dangote campaign into Nigeria, retail outlets like us should know the price input of Dangote but they have kept that shrouded in secrecy up until now,” he said.

He noted that while the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited gave a price template, it did not reveal the input of Dangote Refinery in the pricing.

He said, “NNPC gave us a price template that also did not tell us what is the exact price input from Dangote.

“We will encourage Dangote to open up the space of communication, talk to stakeholders, get valuable inputs from everyone because it’s a business that involves Nigerians, retail outlet owners like us, different consumers, so there should be some level of business transparency, even if it’s a private business.

“We are so proud that we have such facility operating in Nigeria but we need to start to see the works. I am unable to confirm to you if Dangote increased their prices or reduced it because we are not aware.”

He noted that the refining company is open about its diesel price but not that of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol.

“I can tell you about their price for diesel because the diesel prices were made known to us, most of us patronise them for diesel but in case of the PMS, I don’t have any information,” he said.

They should blame Tinubu and the NNPC, they first made NNPC the sole buyer of petrol from Dangote, while making sure the price was set by them, and then they refused to say the price for more than a month, now they said they don't want to do middle man again.

What do you expect Dangote to do? to take the fall for Tinubu and the NNPC to announce a price that he initially did not tell Nigerians from the onset, so that they will say Dangote is the one who increased the fuel price and not Tinubu, Indirectly Dangote is telling them to come and buy, whatever they see, they sell to Nigerians.

More like I won't be the bringer of bad news and I won't take the fall either

Dangote, Tinubu and NNPCL are criminals. All of them are operating in secrecy thereby short-changing Nigerians on petroleum products pricing.

If you go to a restaurant and you are charged, they break down the pricing for you.
Same thing with if you go to a hotel, or you visit a hospital.

The retailers have a valid request in knowing how come they are to pay more for a product that is derived from a local currency supply and not from importation. Is it coming from the rise in crude oil prices seen recently? Is it coming from a total removal of any shortfall payments (subsidy) by NNPC?

They deserve an explanation. Dangote refinery is a B2B business.

They shouldn't be clever by half. Dangote is likely waiting for NNPC to announce the price of imported fuel without "subsidy" before he is clear about his price so that you know the difference. Because there are indications that NNPC is still booking cargo from outside the country.

With increased oil prices due to middle eastern tensions and a corresponding sure banker increase in fx rates due to the increase in fuel prices in Nigeria, do not think that 998 will be the last increment

They know it, everyone that is not playing the ostrich knows this. so no need to complain.

This government needs to find a way to subsidize energy costs in this country and go after the real leakage which is corruption. If not, I'm afraid it's a vicious cycle

What about the nnpc owned refinaries billions of tax payers money has been spent on? They promised Nigerians the refinaries will function before buhari left office. Since the current administration, so so shifting of dates.
