Can never ever try that, if a client doesn't make a part payment of the agreed sum, I won't lift a finger to build anything. I would rather sit idle watching Netflix or YouTube, dey chop kuli kuli...lol.

I guess it's newbies in the business that do that out of desperation to prove themselves, no be experienced guys like me, wey don get white hair on top the matter.

The way I see it is when starting out you can build one or two for them for referrals and you start searching for real clients but after that working for free is a huge red flag

My very first commercial software I ever built was bought & paid for. I have never built or coded anything for a business for free till date.

I actually got referred by a colleague of mine who knew then, I programmed for fun (Non-commercial), cuz den if I build stuff, I show my colleagues, so they were aware dat dis dude na programmer. When opportunity came he called and said, "...are u still doing those ur programming stuff....abeg come, business dey".

Alright But you were lucky enough to be in such environment, not everybody is that blessed

I know, I get your point sha, it still depends on individual. Just build stuff or applications down, on ur own, put am for corner, not free for clients.

When opportunity come use am take get contract, that's how I got my first programming gig. It was an application I use play play build, I used as presentation to the company and got the contract. They liked it and said I should modify or customize for them, I got my first cheque part payment after d presentation dat same day. Ny I give sumtin to my colleague wey refer me...lol
