Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader and former governor of Lagos State, has accused the Jonathan presidency of betraying its social contract with the people by suddenly removing fuel subsidy.

He, however, provided a window out of the crisis: if subsidy must be removed at all, it must never be at one fell swoop. Rather it must be on calibrated basis, on which the promised gains are measured and confirmed before moving to the next phase of removal.

“Government must modify the sudden and complete removal of the subsidy. Either we restore the subsidy or use the funds for other social purposes,” Asiwaju Tinubu counselled in a special release he captioned, ‘Removal of oil subsidy – President Jonathan breaks social contract with the people’ and which he personally signed.

The former governor cautioned the federal government against economic policies that tend to balance the books at the detriment of the people’s welfare.

"As there is progressive politics, there is progressive economics. As there is elitist politics, there is elitist economics,”
Asiwaju Tinubu explained. “It all depends on what and who in society government would rather favour. The Jonathan tax,” he declared, “represents a new standard in elitism.”

“He is slave to wrong-headed economics,” Asiwaju Tinubu said of President Goodluck Jonathan, “the people will become enslaved to greater misery. This crisis will bear his name and will be his legacy. The people now pay a steep tax for voting him into office. The removal of the subsidy is the ‘Jonathan tax’,” he insisted. “The situation shows that ideas count more than personalities. People may occupy office but how that person performs depends on the ideas that occupy his mind"

Both Tinubu and his supporters have all agreed that Tinubu did it to play politics for his selfish interest, so how are we sure that he isn't also using the current subsidy removal now to play politics for his selfish interest?

If he truly said all this back in 2012 then it means Tinubu knows exactly what he doing to destroy Nigeria's economy.... he is heartless, malicious and deceptive.... For knowing the right approach in handling the situation but choosing to sabotage and destroy Nigeria's economy the way he removed subsidy and implementing other harsh policies shows he has no conscience.... It does not matter whether he is a western foreign powers USA/France puppet or an IMF/World bank agent, Tinubu will not escape the consequences of what he has done to Nigerians....

Tinubu as usual was itchy & impulsive with this subsidy removal issue but of course he is not sincere with any social contract he promised the battered Nigerians because he is a fraudulent and criminal person from antiquity.Hence the many anti- human policies of his government

He opposed fuel subsidy removal in 2012 calling it a scam and fraud. Fast forward to today, the APC he created ended up being the biggest scam and fraud ever seen in the annals of this nation.

And today the bloody hypocrite and fraud of an sees himself as a social and humanitarian hero for removing same subsidy his corrupt government have been looting via the back door? Nigerians are really gullible.

It is not a laughing a matter.... It is glaring that Tinubu is indeed evil and should be rejected by all well meaning Nigerians.... When all is said and done Tinubu and his callous supporters will be disgraced out of office....

Subsidy was never removed as the case with Buhari because they have been paying the same fee subsidy they have fraudulently claimed they have done away with while they are simply looting same. We have moved from Buhari's 2015 -subsidy is a fraud, to the 2016 announcement of subsidy removed and finally 2023 -subsidy is GONE.
