The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced that UNISTAR meters will be phased out by November 14, 2024, urging customers to apply for new meters to avoid being switched to postpaid billing.

In a notice posted on Friday, October 11, 2024, the company emphasized that UNISTAR meters are no longer compatible with the new STS 2.0 metering system, which is being rolled out across its network.

EKEDC stated: “UNISTAR meters are not compatible with the new STS 2.0 system. Kindly apply for a new meter to avoid being moved to postpaid billing.”

The company also reminded customers of the impending deadline: “Did you know that UNISTAR meters will be phased out by November 14, 2024? To apply for a prepaid meter, visit www.ekedp.com/metering.”

EKEDC encourages customers to act promptly to prevent any disruption in their billing system and to enjoy the continued benefits of prepaid metering.

The regulatory agency needs to stop this exploitation.

Where are people supposed to raise hundreds of thousands of naira to buy new prepaid meters in this harsh and terrible economy caused by BAT?

Why not do a straightforward swap and allow customers pay monthly until the meter is paid up?

If a new meter costs N200k, replace the old ones and let customers defray from thier recharges at the rate of N3k-N10k per month over a period of time.

Once a repayment plan is agreed, the customer cannot buy units less than the amount for repayment...

Why is the government so uncaring and heartless?

Men they are brutal with the way the tarrifs are set now o... And the worst part is they STILL can't boast of steady power supply, some people are spending upwards of 50k per month for electricity these days ...

I realized it's becasue they see how people are miraculously generating money to fuel their internet subscription which means the ability to pay the tariff is there so nepa too wants a slice of the pie.

For example Ariel has given me almost 200k airtime bonus because Everytime I subscribed for data they keep giving me free airtime and it just keeps pilling up, and now I basically call for free ands stay as long as I want ... Reminds me of the days of nitel and the landline phones.

It is unchecked explotation enabled by the government.

Until government officials are made to live within thier salaries, the masses would continue to be exploited.

Then go and install the right meter at people's homes free of charge because the fault is not theirs.

See the way they make swindling looks appropriate

As if the end users have any technical knowledge,made contributions or gave specifications to the meters you sold to them
