NRC certifies Lagos Rail systems, grants operational licenses for Blue and Red Lines

A significant milestone in Nigerian railway transportation has been recorded by the Lagos State Government as the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) issued operational licences for Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines. The licences were received by the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo on behalf of the Lagos State Government.

The NRC granted a three-year operational license for the Blue Line and a temporary six-month license for the Red Line.

The licences were issued following close to three years of successful assessment period of the infrastructure and operation of the Blue Line and testing of the pre-operational capacity of the Red Line. The temporary license for the Red Line will be converted to a permanent license after further assessment of its full passenger operations.

Managing Director of NRC expressed his appreciation for LAMATA's efforts to secure the licenses. He emphasized NRC's desire to see the tracks occupied and voiced confidence in LAMATA's success. Okhiria also stated that this was the first time NRC had permitted another entity to operate trains in Nigeria. LAMATA's Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo received the licenses and commended the NRC team for their professionalism and intellectual engagement throughout the process.

Management and staff from NRC and LAMATA, as well as other key figures in the transportation sector, attended the event.
The issuance of these licenses marks a significant step forward in developing Lagos' rail transportation system and signifies a positive collaboration between LAMATA and NRC.

State government can now build and operate railway because it's no more in the exclusive list. I have to say this because some people might start claiming it's because nah Lagos

More of Tinubu's legacies......

In years to come, what a collection of governors would do in Lagos will be attributed to Tinubu..... Because some people claim he created Lagos by himself and also masterminded the entire development process ....

We saw this and decided that he should do the same for Nigeria.... And we're currently in a mess!

All we get is to be patient while staying hungry!

Why can't other states follow suite.

Inter state trains

Intra state trains

Curb the use of vehicles for mode of transportation and we won't worry about prices of petrol products.

Imagine taking train to work and back like in the USA.

Train from lagos down to abuja and to kaduna and to kano and to Katsina.

And internal train stations in. The states.

Transporting food stuff will be cheap and fast and the price of fuel won't affect price of goods and with train you can transport large commodity with a cargo and also our roads won't be spoilt with those long big trucks that causes accident.

The government should use that money they usually use for payment of subsidy and fix our train system in the country.

It Will go far. Any President that can take up this initiative and it works deserves a third terms.

You want to pay high taxes for the favor?

Hong Kong has a lovely metro because high income from taxes and other stuff

Most of your states can't do a metro system because it would mean massive taxation. Not a vote winner

NRC needs to be unbundled. It shouldn't be operator and regulator. Failure to do early will result into us wasting billions in building railway system. The Warri Itakpe railway is currently falling apart due to NRC lackadaisical attitude to maintenance

What about the oil producing states? Say an inter-train between Rivers and Imo and/or Akwa Ibom, Abia and Rivers.

Lol. That oil money is not enough for that kind of thing.

Seriously, it isn't.

Nigeria has a poor revenue from taxes especially at state level. We use oil and loans to plug up the resulting deficits.

Even Lagos that has a high igr, they have only done two out of the seven lines that they plan to do and it took them 15 years.
