In my opinion marketers are now on d losing end... All d petrol they bought cheap and held so that they can sell at a high price has gotten finished..... Now they have to buy at 900 per litre from Dangote and sell 1k...thats not d problem.... D problem now is.... People are not buying.... How many people can afford to buy 20 litres of fuel for 20? People are still buying d normal amount of fuel d buy before

Until dangote states his free market price all this are illegal or corrupt.

Dangote played Nigerians and NMPCL very well and got what he wants. He wants to be the one selling directly to marketers and now different marketers will be selling at any rate they like and when people begin to shout Dangote is wicked he will come to Media again and say he isn't the one who hike the price but no one should accept that. Like NNPC, Dangote must establish filling stations across every state to show how much he actually sells his products or he will be seen as the one who is making government look bad.

JASONjnr:
Regulating the price is mandatory for the marketers to follow..

But, will Dangote be sincere enough to not hike the price from his production to allow the marketers maintain a steady price?

And why can't we have different refineries in different regions to reduce the cost of fuel and the risk of transporting them.
I still can't understand why our Government cannot make at least 2 of it's own refinery to work? That's one of the ways to relegate Dangote's refinery to avoid PMS being monopolised by him.

Any Government that lack the political will to resolve our refineries quagmire is incompetent and fantastically corrupt.

I wish have a leader with the mind of the late Abacha.

Dangote is a fraudulent entrepreneur that derives joy in squeezing the day light out of the already impoverished Nigerians. Why can't he come out clean and tell us the real price of his fuel? How comes it is NNPC that is announcing price for a business that belongs to Dangote?

NNPC and Dangote God go punish una. Useless people
Dangote is also the one that doesn't want our refinery to function after 60 years

elder1002:
IF DANGOTE WANTS TO HELP NIGERIAN. HE SHOULD JUST CLOSE EYES AND OPEN HIS MINI FILLING STATION DEPOT JUST AS NNPC HAS IN THE 36 STATES OF THE FEDERATION.

ATLEAST LET HIM MONOPOLIZE THE SECTOR IN GENERAL SINCE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT AIN'T SERIOUS ABOUT STABILIZING AND REHABILITATING OUR REFINERY.

IT WIL EVEN BE LESS CHEAPER THAN MARKETERS BUYING DIRECTLY FROM HIM

Since government isn't subsidizing any fuel products.. and we know crude on its own is a global commodity. Traded internationally ( you can browse and check the current price of brent crude).

And its affected by supply and demand with OPEC as a final deciding committee of price of OIL.

WHATEVER PRICE WE SEE AS NIGERIANS WE SHOULD JUST ACCEPT COS AT THE END OF THE DAY OUR GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED TO SECURE A STABLE REFINERY FOR THE COUNTRY OUT OF THE 4 REFINERY'S WE HAVE AS A NATION.

THEY FAILED TO SELL TO PRIVATE INVESTORS AND FAILED TO REVIVE THE REFINERY AFTER ALL PROMISES AND MONEY SPENT..NOT EVEN WATER CAN BE PRODUCED FROM THE REFINERY.

AS WE KNOW OIL PRICES ARE AFFECTED BY MIDDLE EAST WAR ETC.

AND THE COST OF REFINING CRUDE COMES INTO PLAY.

See ehn this petroleum sector is one sensitive area I don't want to go deep into because for the matter of fact is since NNPC don't have a refinery and don't want to make sure our refineries are working at the end of the day they still have some shady deals with dangote.

As long as they supply crude to dangote and have some debts to pay. They will determine the price dangote sells to Marketers and collect profit backend.

It still sad that we as a nation have 4 refineries that aren't working.. like its quite painful.

Dangote as a business man will sell solemnly for profit at the current market price... We shouldn't expect him to subsidies fuel price because he has staffa to pay salaries and. Refinery to maintain.

The whole crude oil saga still boils down to corruption. If we had at least 2 of our Nigerian owned refinery working it would have been a different case and ball game intirely but now that its one private owned REFINERY with a small hand of government inside we shouldn't expect any reduction of fuel price.

As of NNPC i don't know why they want to be standing as the backbone of petroleum products in Nigeria.

An institution that doesn't have a working REFINERY to start with.. they are no different from a common marketer that has a filling station.

They should stop interfering with petroleum products in the country and stand as a middle man.

For over 30yrs as an institution they can't keep a record or save up to revive our refinery.

They are the biggest thieves of all government institutions
e get level wey person Dey reach e get business wey no Dey move am again it’s just like telling me to go and open pos business.dangote no fit build fuel stations

His paymasters at IMF and World Bank instructed him to do both simultaneously.
MakindeHassan:
I don’t understand why people are expecting a reduction in pump price. Naira is $/1700 so ideally PMS should be selling around 1,500/liter without subsidy.

If your Jagaban had removed subsidy first and waited before floating naira, the highest PMS would sell for when naira was $/500 would be around N400/liter.

Your first class accountant was in a hurry to prove himself and act tough without appointing economic advisers to guide his policy so he did both at once. Enjoy your N1k+/liter in peace.

I suggest the government owned refineries should be put up for sales ASAP to private investors so we can eventually have some competition in the market.
Re: As Petroleum Marketers Buy Directly From Refineries, What Will Happen To Pricing by Tareq1105: 11:18am On Oct 12, 2024
Marketers are exploiters and it's unfortunate that they succeeded against NNPC.

But now that they have pushed NNPC out, let's see if the pump price will change. Oil marketers just painted NNPC black in order to send it out of the way for their selfishness.

Time will surely tell.
Re: As Petroleum Marketers Buy Directly From Refineries, What Will Happen To Pricing by Acidosis(m): 11:21am On Oct 12, 2024
Marketer or no marketer, petrol will never sell below N1000 again. Those arguing over a price difference of N50 rather than confront the man who took the price from 200 to about 1000 are extremely s t u p i d.

Nigerian APC journalists really need to stop this m a d n e s s. The real m a d n e s s is Tinubu's decision to remove subsidy at a time the Naira had zero value. That's the main problem. With exchange rate moving closely to 2000, no amount of "after-thought" N50 NNPC "subsidy" or yeye price regulation can reverse the trend.

What are these m a d individuals even regulating? Exchange rate and the fuel price have always moved in tandem. If Naira falls further to N10, 000 per dollar, Dangote will sell his fuel for 8000 per litre. The maths is simple.

Take this to the bank, the least price will certainly be gotten from NNPC retail, remain the demand for PMS is perfectly inelastic.
The role NNPC retail was playing hitherto was to guarantee energy security for the nation knowing fully that the demand for PMS is perfectly inelastic.

The government doesn't care.
The type of ultra capitalist ideology being practiced by this government in Nigeria, has not been practised anywhere else in the developing world. This evil idea that the government has no duty helping out with alleviating the sufferings of the people through essential subsidies, but rather should be too forward in taxing the poor to their graves, can only be defined as "economic terrorism ". This government is working for outsiders and not for Nigerians
Capitalist idealogies is nothing compared to capitalist idealogies in the west, especially america

Obasanjo’s administration was heaped stories regarding megawatts. B.A.T’s administration is heaped stories regarding petroleum distribution. History doesn’t change. It repeats itself.
