I had a terrible experience few hours ago;

It was drizzling a little and there was no light as usual. We had the inverter system on but no appliance was on except the kitchen POP light.

I was home in my room surfing the Internet while my wife was busy in the kitchen.

What we heard was a very loud thunder ⚡ strike. I felt my leg was hit by a big stick and I shouted Jesus. I also heard my wife screaming Jesus repeatedly from the kitchen which was just adjacent the room I was, and I dashed out to see what had happened. On getting there, The electrical panel box and the whole inverter system was emitting smokes, all the wall sockets and pop light were damaged. Went outside and realized the parapet close to where the electrical wire from the pole served the house was badly hit and you could see the 14inch rods we used in casting it. The changeover switch and cutouts were badly damaged as well... Probably the whole house would have fallen if we didn't do a round lintel, or it would have burnt down it there was nepa light...

It's crazy because I have never experienced this my whole life.

Kindly note; We did what they call heart or so. I have called my electrician but his number is not reachable at the moment.

I'm a confused man at the moment. Scared as well.... It's a traumatic experience I may never forget soon.

I wish I could post pictures to see the extent of damage but I just can't....

I don’t think it is your electrician fault according to what you said…
Did you use thunder arrestor in your house?
Most Inverter installer will tell you they heart the inverter, meanwhile what they use to heart is just a tiny control switch that can’t even arrest thunder and is not even connected to your DB …

The inverter installers didn't tell me to use thunder catcher. I would have bought it... I called my architect and he mentioned thunder arrester. I used heart during construction.

do u have a thunder protector on your roof n another thing is that is your house earthed?

Like earthing against shock n electrical explosion?

It's d electrician that did d wiring right from d onset n e too should do d earthing

Inverter man will only do earthing for his own work, I am happy for u that it's not NEPA

God will keep protecting us, u can call an electrician to fix things up for u

Thunder arrestor is good for the house because it will direct any thunder coming to the house to the ground and that is where you take your heartening but you see inverter installer having install solar panel on your roof supposed to join their heartening of the inverter system to the heartening in your DB…
I wonder who give them that idea , as Solar panel generate sunlight to charge your inverter system , it can also attract thunder because thunder is like lightning spark that is a bright and visible to the eye …

They did the house wiring earthing but I didn't know it also has to be done for the inverter

My house is hearted but I don't have a thunder catcher on the roof...
Maybe the heart failed too sha...

Try install Lightning Protection System( thunder arrestor in layman term) asap.
Also install Surge Protection device in your solar system setup.

Thunder arrester is like a long pole, they will dig a ground(not too wide) and put in the hole, after connecting some wires to it and then close the place with some sand and cement

An electrician has installed it for us before

Please try to get it, is important. Especially this raining season

Had a similar experience when serving as a corper in Ota Ogun State. I was working with my laptop. It was plugged in. Rain started falling and nepa took light. About 5 minutes later, thunder struck. In that moment, current flew from the socket and lifted me and my laptop into the air. If I had not quickly thrown the laptop away, I would have been electrocuted. I still have the scar on my lap where the laptop contacted my skin.

Remember, I said there was no light o. The house must have been poorly earthed for lightening to flow through the wiring like that.

I thank God I'm alive because the incident killed a man in the next compound.
