Which is more "powerful"? Years in service or Rank? I would expect a Lt Gen, for example to be more powerful than a Brigadier irrespective of their years in service

Military training is tough everywhere regardless of the country. Infact compared to the USA, Nigeria military training is a joke. The big reason people no longer join and I think they know but this report systematically wants to avoid it. Is that the military is not looking for staffs but slaves. Who want to be a slave? The job is no longer a career. When you graduate from the University, you are told in clear terms that the military is not for you. The only people that can join the military with a university degree are the elite or those that can pay the huge bribe required. The result is that the elite are at the top cadre. So what they are looking for now is the recruit. In a state that have a high literacy rate, you expect to find people who will be happy to join the recruit of police or army after spending their money on education. Another reason is that no reasonable Nigerian from the south today will be happy to be working alongside Boko haram members since the military usually convert Boko haram to its members. Let them continue damaging their institution and then be pretending they don't know the reason. I think last year or so this was also an issue in Edo State during the police recruitment as no one purchased forms. They had to extend the date twice.

I actually don't believe this. You're not a military personnel. Military respect those ahead of them. If you like don spend 100 years in the military while person wey spend only 1 month dey ahead of you, the person na your boss and you go respect am die

1. You proudly announced how you disrespected your senior.
2. In the military, age and length does not count only seniority by rank and/or number counts. You of all people should know that.
3. You got away with what you did just because he was still fresh but I can guarantee you a captain will mess you up. Two reasons why he did not take your issue up was because he did not have enough hold on you and you were the least of his problems at that time.
4. You must have been cautious of him thereby avoiding him which made your work area toxic for you more than him. In other words, you used your own hands to create a toxic working area for yourself
5. You created and enemy for yourself with your actions. If he decides to tell his coursmates and friends about your unruly behaviour, you would have made more enemies that you do not even know about. The more superior enemies you have, the more your problems in the military
6. Las las, you were envious of him and his bright career prospects and the life he was living being the centre stage of girls and everyone around him

Have you seen where the US marine conduct their training? I have a cousin that couldn't complete the training, maybe you should hear from them then you will know that we are even joking here. Did you know that what we know today as terrorism or suicide mission was a form of military training given to a group of people when they were loosing the battle? Military training is intense everywhere. It is not meant for the faint hearted. The reason for people not joining has nothing to do with the training. Even in IT sector particularly programming is also not easy. There is no easy job anywhere. If it was easy, you won't be paid for it. The military hierarchy in Nigeria is so bastardised that people prefer joining the local vigilante than being a recruit in the army or police.

Oga there are IT jobs and most pay you remotely in dollars. For example Front-end programming can pay you up to 4000usd per month. There are other IT jobs UI/UX, full stack programming, virtual assistant, cyber-security and a host of others.

No it is the corruption embedded in the system that is discouraging. You have to know top government officials or pay heavy money to get it .

Y'all need to stop deceiving yourselves with these posts about low turn out for military jobs, it's actually a LIE! Every year, thousands of Nigerian youths apply for military jobs but they have a very limited quota, even for recruits, most (not all) enter through referral and connections.

When I was in my 20s, I knew how many military recruitment scratch cards I bought; this was even before I got my degree cos I wanted to join as a tradesman with my diploma then. Back when GEJ was president, the military was using recruitment exercise as a money-making venture... fast forward to today, despite the poor remuneration and the fact that Boko Haram terrorists are walking free in the name of "rehabilitation", I am sure that hundreds of thousands of youths are still applying and not getting picked.

THEY ARE NOT RECRUITING ENOUGH, SIMPLE!!!!

Going by my observation. Anybody that joins the military now does so because he or she has no hope again in life

As expected. I would expect that someone who has been in service for a shorter period of time and has a higher rank then (in normal merit-based military) they are a better performer (barring things like injuries incapacitating the “senior”)
