Most eggs production in Nigeria is done small scale. Taken together, they cannot produce enough for the whole population

What should happen is that there should be large.scale egg production via modern methods. Right now only a tiny minority of eggs in Nigeria are produced that way. Eventually it would have to be the majority.

Also, we have to improve transport links. Railways have to be expanded and so also road transport as well. That would help in keeping prices low.

Logical way to alleviate the shortage is to import. But maize importation is prohibited. So what did the government do? It created an oligopoly by licensing only four companies to import maize. No competition...that's FEUDAL-SOCIALISM in full practice. 😢

If anyone had told me eggs would be so expensive and hit 7K (present prices), I would not have believed it. During my university days, I ensured there was a crate as long as school was in session. Boiled eggs remain my favourite and ready source of proteins.

I have predicted that by the end of next year, the price of eggs will hit 600 if government does nothing to fight inflation. The CBN has no choice but to increase interest rates high enough to slow down inflation.
