Propaganda. The air defences were there all along but couldn't stop the Iranian strikes. The west is just struggling to deal with the fact that Iran has some smart missiles that can penetrate their air shields quite easily. That sad reality has proven too hard for them to swallow. It is also troubling that the west seem to be preparing for a fresh war in another front in the gulf. A major war that might blow up as big as the Russia vs Ukraine war.
