Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former Benue State governor, has raised urgent concerns over Nigeria’s worsening economic situation, stressing the severe impact of surging food and transportation costs.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Suswam illustrated the alarming cost increases by pointing to the price of eggs.

“A crate of eggs that was less than N1,000 is now N10,000,” he revealed. “So it means that me and you can’t afford to eat eggs in our houses.”

The senator’s remarks reflect the frustrations of many Nigerians struggling with the recent spike in essential goods prices.

According to Suswam, these economic burdens are affecting average citizens and have made even public figures like himself rethink their daily expenses.

“People cannot transport themselves to their offices,” he noted, emphasising how the high transport costs make daily commutes a financial strain for workers.

Urging President Bola Tinubu to take swift action, Suswam proposed that an emergency meeting with the president’s economic team could help reshape policies that currently inflate the cost of living.

“We need to look beyond just economics and think about the everyday lives of people struggling to feed their families and get to work,” he stated, appealing for a response that prioritises the well-being of ordinary Nigerians.

The senator’s call underscores a shared hardship and pressures the administration to provide urgent relief as citizens contend with these rising costs.
