The Legacy's Of Colonialism And It's Shadow Effect by Feminuel07(op): 9:35pm On Oct 14, 2024
Thou it is without saying that the now formed Nigeria was in a state of war when the whites came in the 1600s and in a state of discord.
The European were experiencing a wide change in their fortunes with voyage away from home and the hope of sustaining their own homes with any resources they can find during the age of Mercantilism.

Mercantilism played a significant role in European colonization and the slave trade. European powers sought to acquire colonies in Africa and other parts of the world to obtain raw materials and establish markets for their manufactured goods. The need for labor to exploit these resources led to the enslavement of millions of Africans and their transportation to the Americas and other parts of the world. The desire for profit was a key driving force behind the slave trade during the age of mercantilism.

European powers saw Africa as a rich source of resources, such as gold, ivory, and spices. To exploit these resources, they needed a workforce, and enslaved Africans were seen as a cheap and readily available labor source. The profit motive, combined with the mercantilist belief in the accumulation of wealth through trade, made the slave trade a highly lucrative enterprise.

They needed any means to develop their lands as they were expanding and needed work force and boom they stumbled on Africa, remember the story of Canaan land, inhabitants were their before the children of Isreal attacked and claimed it.

the intro was to give a brief description of the state of affairs between the two areas. Any means possible was enacted to take from now Nigeria, war was fought and they won cause they had sophisticated weapon and where they couldn't gain by force they had to use ideology and it was later discovered that ideology was the best tactics to use, White Supremacy a state where the whites believed they are culturally superior to the blacks was encouraged.

The colonial era significantly impacted Nigerian history and identity, leading to a loss of cultural connection and self-determination. Colonizers imposed their systems of governance, education, and religion, often suppressing indigenous cultures and traditions. This has resulted in a complex process of decolonization and identity reconstruction for many Nigerians, Even rewriting the history to tamper down their bad deeds and leaving a system of education where history isn't taught like we were never tortured and not sold into slavery

The legacy of colonialism indeed have lasting psychological and cultural effects on societies, including the ways in which people perceive themselves and their world. The trauma experienced by enslaved and their descendants were passed down through generations, leading to feelings of fear, hopelessness, and a loss of identity.
The desire to emulate Western culture and values is a consequence of colonialism and the associated feelings of inferiority. This lead to a focus on external validation and material possessions as a means of achieving social status and self-worth. Most homes are filled with individuals who are neglected cause unconsciously their parents have neglected them on the name of fending or religious activities and their main pursue now is to make money to show their superiority

The desire for external validation and the neglect of local culture is a manifestation of the colonial legacy. The emphasis on Western standards and values leads to a devaluation of local culture and a sense of inferiority.
