Please tell me you just made a joke and did not say there are no subsidies in Europe and America.
Honestly, tell me you didnt just say that.
Which European countries pay subsidy on Dollar and petrol? And let me know when the US started paying subsidy on petrol? Those are the two important subsidies removed

That's like what the WB/IMF did that impoverished Nigeria till today during the early years of Babangida's military administration.
Little wonder Tinubu has been bold enough to impose this level of hardship upon Nigerians.

■ So, why are there no subsidy in European countries and America?
■ When you undertake this type of reform, there would be suffering initially but things would turn around, as I predicted within 20-40 years.
■ The only reason anyone should object this should be corruption
1. There are subsidy programs in America. Better still they are instead more SAFTEY NET programs than mere subsidy programs. undecided

2. I disagree! Safety nets are meant to cushion the effects of the reforms and so it is the reason why they are suggested as part of the reforms to be implemented — the creation of policies is not where these reforms should end. undecided

3. Corruption is not a good enough reason to object to common sense reforms. Rather, it is a reason for insistence by all that beneficial implementation of reforms should be carried out beyond the creation of policies. undecided

Both European countries and the USA pay many subsidies, including subsidies on PMS, subsidies to farmers, education subsidies, health care subsidies, unemployment subsidies, housing subsidies, to many to mention.

You're not answering my question.

Which European countries have subsidy on petrol and Dollar?

Does the US subsidize petrol?

When you understand why they won't subsidize the two above, you'll understand why the Nigeria government can't afford to subsidize them anymore.

One hour wage of a lowest paid European or American worker can feed him a day, while one hour wage of a Nigerian cannot buy a cup of beans.
Increase inequality between Sub-saharan Africans and Europeans/Americans - that's the other job of the World Bank/IMF.
By the next 15 years, abysmal poverty and insecurity must have been it in Nigeria.

How will the US Fed subsidize the Dollar when it creates it by fiat?
And yes, many states in the US subsidize petrol.

There you are!!

Nigeria has been doing all that too for ages. But it's a burden that's too much for us to carry because we're a poor country.

Those countries can afford it. But we can't!!!

1. No, it does not! But, it does subsidize the fossil-fuel industry.

I am not against petroleum products subsidy removal. I am instead pointing out the fact that the reforms suggested by the World Bank have been alongside safety net programs— subsidized by the government — which are there to help cushion the suffering of the people. No country should be without that but Nigeria happens to be one country that is without it and this is generally a result of incompetence on the part of its government. undecided

These people don't wish us well at all. We're yet to see the benefits of the SAP imposed on us in the 80s.
What aspects of SAP were in fact implemented by the Babangida Government? Part of SAP reforms included the removal of fuel subsidies. Did that ever happen? Did the Government privatize state-owned entities at the time? Did IBB move to massively reduce government bloat at that time or did it instead balloon it? Did the Government move to deregulate pricing at the time? undecided

How can you benefit from a set of reforms that were never in fact implemented? undecided
