Maannn...I haven't really read any of Chimamanda Adichie's book despite all the raves they get. The only one i have read was, a short novella titled "Notes on Grief", and it was suggested to me, to get over a personal loss 😞. It was so good, and the writing style was top notch... I need to get into her works more 🤔
Same here bruh... I also haven't read any of her books even tho they're quite revered.
I plan to read some of her books and other authors I've missed over the years.
The problem is with finding time to actually read them.

Nah bro.... That's just dictionary meaning and academic.

A blockbuster movie also means the money put into it, and pedigree of filmmakers behind it and scope of the film.

Then why are upcoming films like Minecraft, Wicked, Superman: Legacy etc tagged blockbusters despite not even out yet to measure their box office success. Why is Joker Folie á Deaux tagged a blockbuster flop?

I read books a lot but through audio books. 99% of the books I read are audio books. I can read them and still do my work

Exactly...The article was just bland. We have gone over the list of books they can adapt...if they start doing that, they might be up to something...

Meanwhile...Africa International Film Festival is coming up, next month, and some next blend of indie gems that i think you should keep an eye out for, have been selected for screening...

Breathe of Life (2023) was the close film of last year's festival and we all know how much of a hit it became...the festival is a big deal....a big break from the nonsense, Netflix serves each week..
Those AFRIFF movies look interesting, especially The Waiting Song and Recall.

Purple hibiscus is another novel I’d like them to consider

No joke at all. There's tons of book in my library and more to add but sometimes I just know within myself say I dey whine myself. There's no time. The few ones I actually forced myself to read and while I quite enjoyed them I haven't read past 10% of the book's content. Talkless of the tons of literature and non fiction I haven't even started.

If it was during my younger years I would have cleared almost all if not all by now. I could easily read a full novel within 24hrs - 36hrs. Now it seems I read at snail's pace. The volumes of pages even scares me unlike before where I cherished seeing mountainous volumes of pages to read.

do you think its possible this is one of those movies that 10 years from now will be a visionary cult classic that was ahead of its time shawshank redemption/the thing style?

because i read somewhere that it is a deconstruction of the celebration of edgelords

😅... The battle between Adulting and Reading books now is so brutal 😬😞.....i will totally be lying if i say i will be starting any new book soon, have my plate full at the moment, and so little time dedicated to reading endeavour.

But i am totally open to the idea of new book suggestions and acquiring them ,😅

This seems like a safe space to talk about how I've been reading The Eye of the World since last year and I'm not even halfway. Then I had to audacity to go and start Dune 😁

Joker (2019) was seen as an iconic movie for giving incels a voice and making them feel justified with their possible actions due to societal ills and injustice. It seemed like a celebratory movie for edgelords.

Todd Philips didn't like that and feels the fans of the first movie didn't understand the point he was trying to pass across so he made this one lame to make you understand he wasn't actually celebrating Joker's societal anarchy campaign.

Yeah..... I have that belief that Joker 2024 could be that movie. Hated during its time but with hindsight would be a celebrated film like the likes of The Shining etc.
But I haven't watched the film yet to be sure of that opinion. Films like that which I feel will become GOAT status or cult classic in a decade or so but not well received is BABYLON (2022) by Damian Chazelle. People will come to realize how wrong they were and harshly judged the movie.

Yeah. I secretly still like the volumes of pages but the dread is because I know I will probably not even read a single one of them. But I keep curating them and my list of books keeps growing. I can't help myself. That's the wary.

I'm just like you bruv.
I know I don't have the time to dedicate to reading for this year or the foreseeable future. But I'd still like to add some books to my collection. 🥴🙃

Charlotte Brontë, Shirley Jackson and Edgar Allan Poe are the few foreign authors I'm kinda interested in their works.

Word on the street is that the new Joker is pissing off it's core fanbase on purpose by being an on the nose deconstruction of everything wrong with being an edge lord. The anime ending of Attack on Titan did the same thing. So now my wheels are spinning.

Are there any other movies, shows, etc where a beloved edgelord character is EFFECTIVELY deconstructed. And by effective I mean leaving little room for misinterpretation. The first joker and 95% of attack on titan failed at this task by making the main characters look super cool while being shitty which of course meant that so many failed to see the problem in their behavior (see my first edgelord video from the main channel's early days). So are there more recent examples of creators leaving no room for confusion?

"Strange Darling" (2024)

"Do you have any idea the risks a woman like me takes whenever she decides to have a little fun?"

Told in a non-linear sequence of six chapters, Strange Darling delivers one of the best uses of non-linear storytelling I've seen in modern cinema. Each chapter is carefully crafted to lure the audience into a state of delirious expectation, as the film swings between moments of pure tension and brutal violence.

The story begins with a faux historical account of a serial killer on the loose, setting the tone for what's to come. The central plot—seemingly a consensual one-night stand—takes a sharp turn when a simple question is posed: "Are you a serial killer?" Even in the heat of the moment, with the promise of intimacy, one can't be too careful with a killer on the loose 😩.

As someone with a particular interest in serial killer films, I was pleasantly surprised by how well-executed this one is. Although some search engines have mislabeled it as horror, this is a Tarantino-esque thriller through and through, with a mind-blowing twist. It’s a breath of fresh air and easily one of the best films I’ve seen this year.

8/10

You try na..... Me wey I start Fire and Blood since 2022 shortly before House of The Dragon.....I'm still yet to reach half of the book sef and I read it disjointedly. I read first pages, jumped to the middle, and moved back and forth closer to the end checking out various era without reading it linearly.
All those manoeuvres and I still haven't reached a 40% completion talkless of reading half of it. 😩😩

I still get liver in acquiring horror books recently. 😅🙃
