Phd (fully Funded) In The USA Or Express Entry (PR) In Canada by Shueld06(op): 7:27pm On Oct 15, 2024
So a friend is in a dilemma. She was nominated for express entry (provincial) in Canada 🇨🇦 and her visa was also approved today to begin a fully funded PhD program in the United States 🇺🇸 in January. Note that, for Canada, she’ll need to get there before shes able to secure jobs with her PR. If you were in her shoes what would u advise?

She can go for both. Once she gets her PR she goes into Canada and does soft landing. Find a friend’s address to use for PR card that will be sent via post. Then return to USA

To maintain your Canadian PR status you need to live in Canada cumulatively for 2 years in the next 5 years. She doesn’t have to drop any of them.

You also dont need to be in Canada to apply for jobs, some people got jobs with their PR before landing

WOW. But won’t her research and studies in the US be disturbed if she’s flying in and out of Canada every other time to maintain 2yrs out of 5yrs requirement for PR? I initially advised her to take the Canada option, get her citizenship after few years and leave for the United States ( there’s a certain work visa US gives to Canadian 🇨🇦 citizens I may be wrong on this correct me), but her eyes is focused on the US as she’s really interested in getting the PhD and working in the biotech sector in the United States (Novartis, Pfizer, etc). She actually got a mouthwatering fellowship for her PhD in a university in the Boston area. She also talked about the possibility of filing her own green card herself, but I fear that the trump presidency era might not make that promising
