MDDarah84:You can, but doing doors and windows first means you can safely store your POP materials within the building while on the job, do wiring safely before POP (which is preferred by most electricians), and your workers can also sleep within until the job is done (which is quite cost effective for those that came from a long distance away). |

It is a cantilever beam or slab? The depth, the position and size of the rebars of the structural member must be adequate enough to support the expected load. Pclemenza: |

For cost effective and durability, it's strongly advisable you go for HDF board for both kitchen cabinet and internal doors. And for wardrobe it's either you use MDF or HDF boards. Maplewood Furniture Nigeria Enterprises is at your service Flexibility, durability and excellent service delivery is key. braveboi4life: |

I’m looking for references from a homeowner or builder on a carpenter that you’ve used in the recent past. My site is in Kuola, Ibadan. I need an exacting craftsman. Thanks. PS: I’ll need a painter and plumber too but first a carpenter. |

SanniOluwafemi:MDF wardrobe cannot hold heavy loads (clothes and bags), except the owner is the type that doesn’t keep loads. MDF wardrobe will tear when climbed or stepped on, to bring down loads. You furniture people won’t tell clients the bitter truth because of quick cash you want to make on them. If the owner doesn’t plan to move around the wardrobe, hardwood is cheaper and better than MDF - even better than HDF. Most of our furniture guys don’t invest in better woodworking tools and it makes their work look bad on hardwood. That’s why they push most clients to finished ‘woods’ like HDF, MDF etc. and they don’t last. Most of these finished woods have been greatly reduced in sizes from China factories before they get here which reduces how strong they could be. Invest better carbide ripping and finishing saws from known brands like ORIGINAL (not imitated) Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Festool etc. and better sanders like ORIGINAL 3M, Festool Rotex sanders, Mirka sanders etc and other accessories and you would do wonders with hardwoods. |

Philipok:This is beautiful. I have seen other excellent artwork jobs on your profile. It’s not a bad idea to have a portfolio of your works in one place. Just open a thread and upload the images on there. Trust me, prospective clients would go through your profile before engaging you. Good luck. |

VanuatuWycombe:Well done 👍 This same argument can be made for wooden internal doors as well. Nigeria as a nation doesn't have skilled craftsmanship labour market. All there is are just journey men, cut and nail pretenders. The advent of okada/keke business in the late 80s and early 90s killed "handwork" apprenticeship. Instead investing time learning a trade, youths and school leavers jumped into riding keke for quick bucks. The days of celebrating freedom from learning work are no more. |

diordaves:You are correct. There are a lot to do with hardwood and right tools. This brings out the craftsmanship. I laugh at most the finishing we even find in Lekki homes which they call high-end. They are just full of shining Formicas and paints, concealing China ‘L’ and ‘T’ shaped metals for joinery. I was surprised to see prices of locally made doors that people sell at N250k. What’s so special in it? The door can’t use more than 7 sheets (max) of 2x12x12 at N7,500 each, 3 hinges of N2,500 each and a door handle of N25,000 (max) and a China-made wood finish of N10,000 that won’t even be used up. The doe would now look like that made for an entrance into a masquerade’s Ìgbàlè. We need to improve our craftsmanship, abeg. This is 2024. |

The way we handle things matters regardless the type of material used. Note, it's not needed to climb on wardrobe to bring down load. No doubt, hard wood is durable but being cheaper than MDF/HDF is a NO for me. Clients who know the value of hard wood will pay for it but only few can. In all, it is not about the money we want to make from it as we have INTEGRITY to protect VanuatuWycombe: |

SanniOluwafemi:Children, even adults, step on wardrobe blockings to bring down things. I can prove to you that hardwood is cheaper than HDF and MDF. Post any woodwork here and let pros in the house do rough costing of it using wood and compare it with HDF or MDF. A sheet of HDF costs between N25k and N50k, especially if it is a melanin HDF. That’s just a 4x8 sheet o. That’s just an equivalence of 2 woods of 12x12, which costs just 15k, max. |
