IGP FROWNS AT ALLEGED CASES OF POLICE HIGH-HANDEDNESS, EXTORTION.

Reassures Nigerians of Leadership’s Zero Tolerance for Corrupt Practices Amongst Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has expressed concerns and condemnation on the alleged cases of extortion and high-handedness perpetrated by certain recalcitrant members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP made this known while addressing Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and heads of various formations at the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan International Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja recently.

The IGP, during his speech, charged the senior officers on proper supervision of the activities of officers at their various levels and ensure the highest standard of professional conduct is maintained and upheld in the course of carrying out their lawful duties. The IGP also ordered the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and other disciplinary Units to carry out routine checks on the activities of officers across the country as part of efforts to curb misconduct and corruption tendencies amongst officers, and ensure strict punishment is meted on erring officers; and that supervisory officers found wanting in this regard will not be spared of vicarious liability.

Similarly, the IGP issued a stern warning to officers regarding the unethical practice of name dropping the IGP and other senior officers to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public. The IGP emphasized that any officer found guilty of leveraging his name for fraudulent activities or extortion will face severe disciplinary measures, reaffirming that the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, unprofessional behavior, and misconduct.

Finally, IGP Egbetokun implored the public to exercise caution and report any attempts to exploit his name for fraudulent activities or extortion in investigation of cases, highlighting the crucial role citizens play in collaborative policing of the society and its police.

This is coming from the same man who operates the Nigerian police as though it is his own private mafia to wield and deploy — mostly against the interest of the Nigerian people whom the organization is tasked with protecting and serving— as he chooses or according to the whims of his political paymasters? Nonsense and eegridient! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

If he is really serious with stopping extortion by officers, he should wear mufti & go undercover as one of the passengers in a commercial bus.
Just catch few errant officers at some checkpoints & set example with them & others will stop.

But he won't, because the extorting officers at checkpoints make returns to ogas on top in the office.

Frown like you don't know how to end this in 2 months?

Make an order... If extortion happens in an area and the DPO don't suspend the officers involved before 1 week then the DPO should be suspended for 6 months and demoted by 2 ranks

Make sure the first 1000 offenders are dealt with

This simple order would restore sanity to the Nigerian police

no be to dey frown. enter road like BAT in the night in unmarked vehicle and catch them yourself. all commissioners of police should move out in the night with plain clothed security in commercial vehicles and catch them. this would help reduce the menace of the police.

Nothing is alleged here.... If you're travelling for instance from ibadan to ogun state, let's say Ijebu ode, you will encounter 7 to 8 police checkpoints, all of them extorts motorists and passengers...

Just the other day we saw a video of a police man in uniform who was alleged to have rape a minor in the police station.

Going by that, all police men should just face the firing squad.

IGP can pretend all he wants but he has weekly and monthly quota that gets to it. DPO has quota they received from different patrols and squads. Area commanders have squads that bring returns to them. Each OC in the state headquarters have their quotas. Commissioners have their quotas and they give return to AIGs, DIGs and IG.

Everyone that's been with the police especially th3 tactical squad understand the complex chain of corruption that's engulfed the Nigerian police.

There will never be an improvement. No IG can change this because he's been a beneficiary and still a beneficiary. And definitely not an IG appointed by a cartel lord - that's an indication of how much of a dirty officer he is and his antecedents is a proof of that
