Why Is Food Cheaper In The North Compare To The Southern Part? by Nobody:
Food prices is cheaper in the north- I wonder why? is that the South do not farm or mass produce food like the Northern part or transportation of foods items is expensive in the Southern part. There are fertile lands in the South where food can be mass produced and food prices can be slight affordable than the price we see today.

Lol.. the solution was obviously to build an interstate rail network
Like the Djibouti Addis ababa one
Where food products can be easily transported and the issue of transport and fuel will be a thing of the past
But world bank knows better

Apart from North having large landmass. Southerners are greedy, they don't like to suffer and make money graduallly.

All the youth with the energy want is to rise from zero to millions

You see states like Edo, Delta, Imo

Their youths are very lazy.

They avoid anything that will give them physical stress

If Government finally stop yahoo, it don be for them.

Anambra are mainly into trading and have less landmass. The reason they are not farming in commercial quantity

Ijaws are trying in yam cultivation and fish farming

Because northerners don't rely on Southern part of the country to produce the food they will consume

They have more youth that are willing to farm, and we have the Yahoo Yahoo youth in the south because our governors and parents prefer education to agriculture forgotten that any nation that value education more than agriculture there citizens will eat English.

Those of you saying the youth down south are lazy and don’t want to farm are wrong to an extent. Farming if done in modernized ways as developed countries do isn’t strenuous, all you need is arable land and machines.

In the south, I’ll take Lagos as a case study cos that’s where I live and grew up. I didn’t grow up to know what a farm looked like, the first time I came across a farm was in my secondary school (boarding school) a unity school. Someone like me that didn’t have the opportunity or parents or even family members that are farmers will obviously have a very thin chance of becoming a farmer. Now that’s the fate of hundreds or thousands of many youth in the South.

Another issue is farming land, in Lagos for example again, there aren’t many farming lands. Most of the lands in Lagos are used for real estate. Lagos is also a city. It’s only normal for many of the people living in the city to not look up to farming as a profession or become farmers. Jobs that thrive in cities are white collar jobs and businesses, farming isn’t one of such jobs.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong if a section of the country produces food and sells to other sections. We all can’t be farmers. If we all farm, who will buy the produce? What happens to other sectors of the economy?

I was disappointed reading their comments but I didn’t even have strength to reply them
They think we are in ancient Mesopotamia
Everyone should go back to farming
This same people will enter government tomorrow and the same myopic way of thinking continues

Really. So what is the no 1 occupation of people in the village. Is there any southern state without villages and farms. The fufu, garri, palm oil, banana, egusi, ugwu, plantain, yam etc you eat, is it the north that is farming them.
Re: Why Is Food Cheaper In The North Compare To The Southern Part? by Tallesty1(m): 10:46pm On Oct 18, 2024
Food is not cheaper in the North, you people should stop eating garo garo, that's not food.

Quality food is expensive everywhere and apart from Yam and potatoes, which other food is cheaper in the north?

Garri is cheaper in the south, akpu is cheaper in the south also. Every region get wetin dey cheaper on their side.

What of the capacity to pay a high price in the north vs the south?

Are northerners as rich generally, compared to southerners?

Do you have southerners begging and hustling menial jobs in the north, compared with northerners doing these in the south?

It’s not just about the transport costs.

No, you don’t drink it, except you are sick from poison and almost dead.

Otherwise you would cook with it.

Your answer is even far more mumuric than the question you are castigating. You have no cleu.
Some of you make it look like the northerners prefer to farm more than the southerners. It is a lie. The fact is that northerners have more incentives to cultivate their arable lands.

The same north have also been helped by hundreds of irrigation and dams projects that make it easier for the farm products to yield better. I'm not sure there is any functional federal government irrigation or Dam projects in the south-east for example. So how are they going to compete in big time mechanised farming?

They have had many decades of endless federal government financial injections in funding and capacity building. In fact, the fish farming revolution going on in the south these days, only started after the current AFDB chairman, who was jonathans Agriculture minister, tried to spread some of these big local and international grants to all regions. So imagine what would have happened if that was the case ab initio.

Fertilisers are basically distributed all year long in the north. Sometimes free or highly subsidised. But most dangerously, the main peobles with price differences, lie with the northern "cooperatives boards", that buy up bulk goods in the north from different farmers for shipments to different parts of the south, and the bad roads/lack of serious rail infastructures, which add to the high cost of transportation.
