I didn't really dig those non mexican shows. It was always weird looking to me. Don't know why.

The refinement compared to Mexicans was unmatched. Lol, I just remembered those mexican cliches with almost all their series set in Ranches. Dem no dey fit do without being large scale Habanero Chilli farmers or Cattle ranchers. grin grin

La Patrona and Woman of Steel dem. 😂😂
😄😄😄
You no lie at all
Mexicans and our Yorubas no de carry eye see pepper.

I enjoyed enjoyed all of them, Mexican and non-Mexican. I just never had the opportunity of finishing any of them. Either the shows stopped airing or school interrupted me.

Holy shït. I didn't know about this.
RIP to the dead. She really got me hooked on Telenovelas back in the day.

It's funny I'm not a fan of Hollywood rom-coms but was a huge consumer of Telenovelas during their prime.
Same here.
That's why I don't contribute to any discussion regarding rom-coms. I don't know them

You say wetin?? She is actually far older than that. The 2yrs older you heard was her husband. She was older than her husband.

For Nicholas, the age is far greater. Nicholas was probably a teen. I think he's about 19. Her kid was 5yrs old then. The story is now 20yrs after. His mom died 11yrs after his death. Mr Brigstocke his father is now a widower for 9yrs.

She was far older, that's why she was experienced and didn't you notice how Nicholas was squirming during their first interaction. It's only a kid that will be that shaky like an inexperienced geek. Person wey dey knack him gf steady for train on their way to Italy. Him see older woman begin dey jitter like who never see woman for him life.

Na the guy small pikin age make me overlook some of him stupidity cos its expected from that age. Dude thought he met the woman of his Life. Well she was his life. grin grin
Oh, that means I totally misheard that part.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Bro, you don't need to beat yourself up for not finishing them. Many of them was never finished especially the later ones when everyone was already hooked on Telenovelas. Our local networks just kept changing shows midway probably depending on demand. Some got repeated so bad you're never getting to the end, you just lost interest and hop on the another one.

Although Galaxy TV was the most dedicated back then who mostly completed their shows. AIT also did decent then.

The Penguin ep 5.....

The stakes just keep going up and up as we go. From frying pan to fire. No let up. Suspense all through. Almost everyone getting screwed over.

And I'm loving it. grin grin

Galaxy TV came later though around 2007-2009 and theirs was in the morning.

AIT and MItv were the major stations broadcasting telenovas in the early 2000s... Passion on Sunday evening and Wednesday I think, this action movie with a catchy soundtrack, the plot was about a bodyguard hired to protect a lady who is always running into trouble.. When you are mine was even later in 2004-2007 if my memory serves me correctly then Second Chance followed suit.

NBC made a broadcast law dedicating the evening time slot to local content in the 2009-2010 period and that effectively ended the telenovas craze for that period.

Fun times grin grin

I started Second Chance on Silverbird TV, watched further episodes on AIT - the spinning no be here. We didn't have Galaxy TV in Abuja, so we only got the leftovers from Lagos

Yeah, it was MItv. I was trying to remember the station that was the major then. Wednesdays was the major day then I think Fridays was for repeats.

Everyone was really hooked to Passion back then but me I can barely remember it. I no too watch am that time sha.

Yep Galaxy and Stv were later years.
There was one, whether na Superscreen or Dbn? Those ones na usually afternoon around 1pm.

I think I remember that bodyguard telenovela but I think I watched it in later years in the 2010s. She was always getting in trouble, and was kinda falling in love with her personal bodyguard. E be like say na the guy wey do Diego sef? She had a daughter I think?? Was that the one??

Although I still very vividly remember watching telenovelas especially Wild Heart on AIT by 10pm till 11pm in the early 2010s every weekdays.
Even Galaxy TV did their telenovelas around 5-6pm in the evening.

And the craze was still there. But rightly like you said the craze was dieing around 2013-15.
I didn't know about the NBC code.

I'm still wondering how the telenovela industry fell flat in naija like a pack of cards. I guess everyone got bored and they didn't adapt or change flavor?
At least even Bollywood retained a small cult segment of followers. Korean fare took over. Even Chinese industry suffered. But Mexican content disappeared....many people won't readily remember there was a time Telenovelas was unbeatable in Nigeria.

AHH, Silverbird na later years for us here o. It was MiTv, before AIT joined freshly. Galaxy TV later grew to be the face of Telenovelas.

There was one that was madly popular in the early 2010s with Maite Perroni. I've forgotten the name. Where this girl was blind but had a guy madly in love with her. She later regained her sight to discover dude once rapéd her sometime ago.

I still dey wonder how Mexico became associated with drug and cartels and illegal emigration in this modern age; as opposed to the land of Telenovelas and beautiful women. The land all the best of the Latina world converge to give us memories. 🤔😕

Oz is the most funniest character in this series you love your mother so much and you burn others to death ….

Sophia Gigante Damn !!!!

mexicans provided support for cololmbian cartels in the 90s, as they were on the us border. the US DOJ defeated the colombian cartels, but did not defeat the US own internal demand for hard drugs. nature abhors a vacuum, so here we are. and the mexicans make the colombian look like pussycats

as to illegal immigration, it is really just right wing dog whistling
mexicans provide cheap labor for construction and farming jobs .
to put it crudely, it is like saying the abokis we use for labor are stealing jobs.
capitalism means americans will continue to he mexicans for cheap labour while their right wing politicians make noise

Yeah. Those American shouts about stealing jobs and US companies outsourcing manufacturing to Mexico and the Asian tigers talk dey always funny me. They always seem to forget what "Cheap labour" and globalization of manufacturing would do to their economy.
Higher standard of living and higher wages simply means costlier goods and services. That's the beauty of Capitalism. Everyone wanna maximise profits.

Now the new shout and enemy is China cos the Middle Kingdom took Capitalism and spin it on its head with its private companies beating US and EU companies in competitiveness and efficiency.
Now its a global propaganda and hate against Huawei and BYD.

The next 50yrs will be a sweet watch sha. Watching live the decline of a major superpower and the rise of another. grin grin

Over 80% of Mexicans in the US are there illegally. They do shit jobs no sane American will contemplate doing.

Some Mexicans have been in the US for over 40 years and they still haven't find way to become citizens or have pr, or still don't see it necessary.

And people say Trump shouldn't kick folks like this out??

Scavengers Reign 9/10

Every now and then, we get a piece of art that you look at and marvel in wonder at how the creators were able to come up with such a concept and execute it. Scavengers Reign is one of such pieces of art.

Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner have my respect with what they've created here. A beautiful, terrifying and mesmerizing world.
I know a student or students of nature when I see one and these guys have definitely been studying for a while.

The world of Scavengers Reign is pretty much like what the Earth looked like before man tamed it. Some parts of it almost feel like you're watching an animated episode of Nat Geo Wild with how much care was taken in designing the terrain, as well as, the local flora and fauna.

But enough talk about the world building, the story is also gripping. It follows a group of survivors of a spaceship malfunction as they scavenge for a way to return to the ship and make it back home. These survivors are not all in one location and their individual journeys, innovative survival skill set and resilience are what make each of the characters interesting in their own right.

Two major themes of this show are survival and evolution. And we get to watch these themes take shape and play out with these characters.

The fact that a show like this didn't automatically grab the Emmy for animated show takes my anticipation of what Blue Eye Samurai has to offer to higher levels cos I'm really interested to see how it matches up to or tops what Scavengers Reign cooked.

Silverbird also came late to Abuja (2007). All the channels in channels in Abuja came from Lagos, and some didn't even survive - like DBN.
How are you able to recall their actual names? If it isn't what they are called in the series, I don't remember sh!t

Cos their names have been imprinted on my mind since I've seen them written at opening credits in the shows many times.
Although these ones I mentioned are the few ones who stood out for me. Not as if I remember everyone names and a Google search some years back refreshed my memory. And when I see written names, I can remember when and what shows those names appear in my mind.

But these names have stuck with me since childhood — Maite Perroni (as Mary Chui in Don't Mess With An Angel) and Mario Cimmaro (as Salvadore in Second Chance).

Some of these names, the more we talk about it these past 2 days the more I remember about them as I type my responses. So it's fun remembering this shit all these years. grin

Downloaded this about a month now but ain't yet found time.

This show was really talked about as the best by people who watched it. But I feel it wasn't watched by many people compared to Blue Eye Samurai. That's where it lost out, I think.

Doesn't do it much good that it was cancelled by Max.
