Bestman360:How is it a contradiction? Aren't there many non-English languages written with English alphabets? Pidgin English is written in English alphabets. Does that make Pidgin English, English? Or are Yoruba and Igbo, languages written English alphabets, also "English"? FYI, what is written on the Nigerian Army logo and I believe the older Naira notes (₦1 note I remember had it) is called "ajami" from the Arabic word ajamiya. A quick look on Wikipedia says the following: "Ajami (Arabic: عجمي, ʿajamī) or Ajamiyya (Arabic: عجمية, ʿajamiyyah), which comes from the Arabic root for 'foreign' or 'stranger', is an Arabic-derived script used for writing African languages, particularly Songhai, Mandé, Hausa and Swahili, although many other languages are also written using the script, including Mooré, Pulaar, Wolof, and Yoruba." So even in some contexts, Yoruba has been written in ajami. So where's the contradiction you spoke about? I had given a native Arabic speaker one of our Naira notes to read the he inscription and it was completely unintelligible to them |

chido20:Be like na you dey struggle with sense. Does writing a language using Arabic letters make the written language Arabic? Does writing a language using English letters make the written language English? The pidgin wey you dey type with English letters you know say dem fit write am with non English letters? Does writing Adétòkunbọ̀ (a Yorùbá name) as Αντετοκούνμπο automatically make the name a Greek name/word? |

airsaylongcome:Bro, I can tell you for free that the Arabic inscription on the NA logo not hausa. Remember the slain Hezbollah leader's name is nasrallah? What's on the NA logo is nasrunminallah. While the former means "God's victory," the later means "Victory is from God" Both are Arabic names! The hausa translation of the Arabic inscription on the NA logo is entirely different. A native Arabic speaker will definitely understand what is written on the Nigerian army logo. Stop misleading people! I'm also hausa and I know Arabic |

| Re: Army Pulls 15 Generals From Service by airsaylongcome: 8:57pm On Oct 21, 2024 |
Solcampbell:Your knowledge of both languages is what makes it seem like it's intelligible. Good thing you mentioned the slain Palestinian, because the native Arabic speaker I showed it to was a Palestinian and she could only make out parts of it. Allah has evolved to mean God in Hausa and even non Muslim Hausa people say Allah to mean their God. |

Alliswell248:There's always an iota of truth in every rumour flying in Nigeria Abba Kyari is dead, no, he he's not, it's rumour spread by mischief makers Now,Muslim-muslim ticket is possible (this went viral as a text messag shortly after Tinubu won primaries). Nothing like that, please it's rumour. Disregard it. Nigeria is a multi religous nation so it won't happen Buhari said subsidy was a scam and they'd not pay it in 2015. He increased pump price and asked us to hear with him. Buhari still paid subsidy despite increasing the pump price. No, please ignore the news. It's fake we're not paying subsidy Governor ajimobi is in coma, he's incapacitated, may be dead. Please ignore the news, it's a mere rumour from the camp of the enemies. He spoke on his sick bed. He'd soon be discharged Yaradua is sick, he can't function. He may be dead. No please, he's recuperating in Germany Baba Suntai is incapacitated, Taraba should shop for deputy quickly. No, he's recovering. He's hale and hearty and would soon return So, your statement only adds up in country or setting, where sincere and incorruptible leaders govern the people. Only a fool would think such a narrative would be applicable in the Nigerian context,.given the highlight points above. |

airsaylongcome:The text written on the Army logo is in Arabic, and it's actually a quotation from Quran 61:13. It states: وَأُخْرَىٰ تُحِبُّونَهَا نَصْرٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَفَتْحٌ قَرِيبٌ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِين "And [you will obtain] another [favor] that you love - victory from Allah and an imminent conquest; and give good tidings to the believers." So, in the Arabic phrase “نَصْرٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ” (nusru min Allah), "نَصْرٌ" (nusr) means "victory," and "مِّنَ اللَّهِ" (min Allah) means "from Allah." Together, the phrase translates to "victory from Allah." Peace! |

| Re: Army Pulls 15 Generals From Service by Bestman360: 2:46am On Oct 22, 2024 |
airsaylongcome:It seems there is a misunderstanding regarding the terms "letter" and "alphabet." An alphabet consists of letters, and there is no such thing as "English alphabets." English has only one alphabet, which contains 26 letters. I hope this clarifies the distinction for you! Additionally, from a linguistic perspective, you cannot write one language using another language. While it is possible to translate from one language to another, the act of writing requires using the specific alphabet and conventions of the target language. On another note, how do you write Hausa and Arabic? If you claim that it is not Arabic but Hausa, I would like to understand how that distinction makes sense to you. |
