We Will Withdraw Court Case Against NNPCL, Others – Dangote Refinery by Bobloco(op): 4:19am On Oct 22, 2024
Dangote Refinery has clarified reports on the case instituted against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and five other companies over importation of petroleum products.

The other five companies are Aym Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, 2015 Petroleum Limited and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited.
Dangote Refinery, in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2024 and filed by Ogwu Onoja, SAN, before Justice Inyang Ekwo, had sued Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and NNPCL as 1st and 2nd defendants.

Also listed as 3rd to 7th defendants respectively in the originating summons dated Sept. 6 are Aym Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, 2015 Petroleum Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited.

The company equally sought a N100 billion in damages against NMDPRA for allegedly continuing to issue import licences to NNPCL and the five companies for importing petroleum products.

These it said are Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Jet Fuel (aviation turbine fuel) into Nigeria, “despite the production of AGO and Jet-A1 that exceeds the current daily consumption of petroleum products in Nigeria by the Dangote Refinery.”

The plaintiff prayed the court to declare that NMDPRA is allegedly in violation of Sections 317(cool and (9) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) by issuing licences for the importation of petroleum products.

However, as Nigerians were reacting to the development, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, clarified that the suit is not new.

“This is an old issue that started in June and culminated in a matter being filed on September 6, 2024.”

“Currently, the parties are in discussion since the President Bola Tinubu’s directive on Crude Oil and Refined products sales in Naira Initiative, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

“We have made tremendous progress in that regard and events have overtaken this development. No party has been served with court processes and there is no intention of doing so. We have agreed to put a halt to the proceedings.

I also thought taking the NNPCL to court was not a very smart move by the Dangote Refineries

NNPCL as a regulator are very strategic and dealing with them may require caution because these guys are not profit oriented unlike Dangote who is all about profits. Dragging long cases in court will have little or no effect on NNPCL but that will cripple Dangote Refineries.

Dangote should try to resolve all cases out of court with other players in the oil field particularly the regulators as excessive court cases have been known to destroy business.

Lastly, Dangote should be wary of all those SANs and other lawyers who are quick to want to go to court because those guys only care about being paid and the more cases in court, the more their legal fees

Yeah extremely strategic in corruption and incompetence. NNPC is jumping jangilova all over dangote refinery is the same NNPC that has 4 refinerys , 4 depots a petrochemical plant and numerous other facilities such a national pipeline netwok , but isn't producing a drop of product even though all it's facilities undergo TAM every other year and oh I almost forgot all these facilities have staff who on a different paygrade , medical access and social amenities from almost everyone else in the country .

NNPC is an Incompetent and useless organisation that should be scrapped and 90% of its staff dismissed with immediate effect

He wanted Monopoly and Nigerians were having none of his buffoonery again since most of the citizens actually thought his refinery would lower the price of PMS a little but reverse is the case.

Nigerians wake up. So After decades of clamor to get a refinery in Nigeria what we end up having is these people playing politics with the lives of Nigerians.
Re: We Will Withdraw Court Case Against NNPCL, Others – Dangote Refinery by ironheart(m): 6:07am On Oct 22, 2024
This guy is a shroud business man, since they have noticed that Nigerians are no longer backing the refinery due to the current price they are forced to pay, they have chosen to withdraw the case from court. I am in total support for independent marketers to import the product since its cheaper abroad

Re: We Will Withdraw Court Case Against NNPCL, Others – Dangote Refinery by Stilloracle: 6:15am On Oct 22, 2024
U may erroneously see Dangote as a Monopolistic biz man, But NO. This man is an astute biz man trying to save Nigeria from the mess of oil barons that that over the decades plunder Nigeria into deep financial mess using oil importation as the tool since the military era.
They crippled NNPC refineries so that they can continue the importation for their own benefits, which is where Subsidy comes from. They created the Subsidy.
(This is why any sensible person will understand why Tinubu radically removed the Subsidy and why the North is now fighting Tinubu. The crook leaders of the Subsidy are Northerners, led by the retired generals)

I did my NYSC at PPMC/NNPC and within 1 year of my service, what I witnessed by myself is a colossal tsunamic corrupt system that only God can bring Nigeria out from.

Govt corruption is just child's play when compared with what oil companies/multinationals/oil marketers commit.
They control the market and since oil is Nigeria's main source of income (The oil sector provides for 95% of Nigeria's foreign exchange earnings and 80% of its budgetary revenues.) they have a choking hold on the country

If Dangote refinery succeeds in all its plans, Nigeria will be free of the stranglehold of the marketers. And it will encourage other investors to also build refineries.

Imagine selling NNPC refineries to investors who will fix them and upgrade them, making Nigeria free from importing oil and gas and rather becoming exporter. NIGERIA WILL BE SO GREAT and RICH
