By the time you take a look at the exchange rate and minimum wage, you will find out is not cheap. But the pace at which the naira is losing value and how cost of living is rising is so scary.
why is naira losing value? What is Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana doing that we can't do or what do they have that we don't have?

A dealer of multimedia equipment told me how he went to buy Tokumbo projectors in lagos and Nigeria dealers had to wait for dealers from Togo to buy to their fill first before they could attempt to buy.

Togolese dealers comfortably pay #150,000 for 1unit whereas their Nigerian counterparts beg for #65,000 for the lowest grade, when the togolese are done buying.

It shall never be well the generations of these thieves, ruling this country. As for their supporters, hunger has kicked off their own punishment already

Please read my comment above this and find that APC/Tinubu/Buhari took away the peace of mind of Nigerians.
The only thing Tinubu should be blamed for is not supporting petrol subsidy removal by Jonathan. If Jonathan had removed subsidy, petrol should be selling highest N500 now.

But then if subsidy was removed on Dollar too by Jonathan, we'll probably have the same price today. Really, there's no shortcut in economics. It appears so

Stop lying, petrol in the Us in the 80s was less than a dollar, it's almost 5dollars now per litre ..

Average rent was around $200-$500 In the 80s now its $1700-$2500.
Petrol is not $5 per litre. It's calculated per gallon which is nearly 4 litres.

Nope. It was @300 naira. Even at that, you could pay your rent, pay your children’s school fees, buy enough food for your house, buy enough beer and paper soup, including enjoying with your side chick.
You would but 12 tubers of yams at 10 naira. You would buy one tin of garri at 4 naira. A bag of rice was at 38 naira and by the way the dollar was at 70 kobo that year.

You can easily verify all!
Google sir minimum was 125

Good do you think it was easy to get that money at that time? That was the year that I left secondary school. If you were born then you will know that it wasn't easy, complains here and there by our parents, government have to sometimes give what was called "essential commodities' to help the people.It consist of provisions and other food items.

why do people post things like this, was minimum wage N70K a month in 1985? A professor or a perm sec did not earn N14k in a whole year in 1985 so what exactly is the point of posting petrol from 1985?
All na to troll the present government unfortunately they are displaying their low IQ.

The question you should ask yourself is has there been anytime things are good. Have known Nigerians to groan. for more than 3 decades now I grew up to see many Nigerians struggling stop making looks like it start now. We all lamenting now because we now pay bills in real sense of it it was not easy for our parents also. When rice was 8k per bag how many household can afford even half bag of it at once ?
In 1985, minimum wage was ₦125 (equal to $190), a stronger naira with great purchasing power. Then 25 litres is not half of minimum wage. But now, 25 litres is half of minimum wage. People will always complain everywhere in the world, does it mean every country has thesame problem.
Re: See Price Of 25 Litre Of Petrol In The Year 1985 (see Here) by Ola64(m): 10:37pm On Oct 22, 2024
To calculate the percentage increase from 5 Naira to 35,000 Naira:

1. First, find the difference: 35,000 - 5 = 34,995
2. Divide the difference by the original value: 34,995 / 5 = 6,999
3. Multiply by 100 to get the percentage: 6,999 * 100 = 699,900%

So, the percentage increase from 5 Naira to 35,000 Naira is approximately 699,900%.

This represents a massive increase of almost 700,000%!

I remember Texaco. Back then petrol stations were owned by exploration companies. Texaco was owned by Chevron, Mobil, Agip, shell total all had their downstream sectors thriving. Then 1 liter is 1 liter no adjustment of meters. Today u have different petrol stations with rigged meters selling low quality fuel capable of destroying ur engine.
This is the one that really gets me pissed.
You'll take a clear transparent keg and buy 5 liters..the volume barely reaches 3/4 way and you'll be seeing 5 liters dispensed by the machine.
The attendant would just be looking at you like..you just dey know?

At first I thought only independent marketers run that shit..
Now all these major marketers with franchise all over should be monitoring them
All of them are involved in it ..
The few ones I've noticed that keeps their meters okay..MRS, NORTHWEST, HEYDEN.

EyeCumInPiece:
1985 = ₦5 per litre
2024 = ₦5x200 =₦1k per litre

So unless we do something...
2063 = ₦1kx200 =₦200k per litre grin

Anybody doubting this, would have also doubted in 1985 that fuel would rise to ₦1k in 2024. grin
Minimum wage then was ₦125
2024 = ₦125 x 200 = ₦25000 🤪
