Abort ‘Japa’ Plans, Fight For Better Nigeria – Femi Kuti by JAOS(op): 6:43am On Oct 23, 2024
Renowned singer Femi Kuti has encouraged young Nigerians to stay and improve their country instead of emigrating.

Speaking at the 2024 Felebration festival, Kuti emphasised that developed countries like Europe and America fought for their freedom, highlighting their histories of civil wars and struggles.

He stressed that Nigeria’s youths should recognise their responsibility to improve their own country.

Kuti noted that iconic landmarks like the Fela Shrine were built in Africa, not abroad, and even those with dual citizenship contribute to Nigeria’s growth, citing his son, Made Kuti as an example.

He said: “People have asked me, ‘Shey you no go japa?’ Japa to where?”

“Let me tell you about Europe; you see Europe and what made it great. Do you think they ran away? No, they fought; Europe fought hundreds of civil wars; dem just dey kill themselves. America had one of the worst civil wars in history, which is why till today Americans still carry guns.

“We must understand that we have to stay here and fight for a better country that we love. We did not build the Fela Shrine in Los Angeles or in London; we built it in Africa. Get your senses together because this country depends on you.

“Made is a British citizen but where is he? He is in Nigeria and he cannot be anywhere else. What does he want to do there? If they call him for work, he’d go there to play and come back. Who would take over the shrine? I want to retire.”

God firbid.
How can you fight for a better Nigeria when INEC and Police are given directive by the presidency to write electoral results thereby subverting the will of the people as was done in Edo recently?

He should stop talking nonsense.....

The people who protested to see to the justice of 20/10/20 where arrested.

The people who protested this year also where arrested and tagged as treasonous for protesting.

How can a common man express it's dissatisfaction about the government when we can't easily reach them ?

If you use the media, they will easily track you down and arrest you. But if you have your car stolen, you can't track the car or your phone because the tools are kept for politicians alone to use and oppress the poor.

Una go just open mouth dey talk anything wey first come outside. I will japa and even advise those male friends around me to japa, but non-virgins a.k.a boreholes should be left here.
There's this colleague of mine at my previous place of work, this guy don blow pass me by 1000 times since he relocated to USA. What this guy earns in a week dey equivalent to my monthly pay. We both na tech guys but I dey far far behind am now, all because he dey country wey appreciate labour.
I was in a tech group on Facebook and a question was asked about how much people yearly in their country. I shock to see junior developers earning a minimum of $70K and above. I converted it to naira and I was disappointed. In Nigeria, you go see tech guys earning 300K and they are happy when they're poorly priced. The best thing I can do for my children is to give them the good life abroad.
Make anybody no tell me about fighting to make this country great
What do I even know sef aside enlightening my fellow men nationwide with the good news

Life is a choice. Allow people to make their choices.

Anyone that wants to go is free to do so. That doesn’t stop him from being a Nigerian except s/he denounces the country

Man is taking overdose
Everybody that tells y’all the truth is taking drugs
Or talks to much
Or has a problem
Except you that is suffering
Sometimes I believe Nigerians like and enjoy everything that is happening to them
But e no concern me

The ram that moves backward in a fight does not do so because of cowardice...it is power that he went to gather.

If you have the opportunity to Japa, please do, it is better to fight and pray for a better Nigeria from your japa'd destination.

Come to think of it, japa-ing is not 'really' a bad thing if one looks at it carefully. Nigerians abroad are one of the biggest, if not the biggest source of Foreign Exchange providers for the Nigerian economy.
In entertainment, one of the not so popular reasons why our songs are now topping world charts is because we now have a substantial amount of Nigerians in most of those countries.

Nonsense!!! He even took style to protect his son that has dual nationality so that he won't be accused of double standards. Speaking from both sides of the mouth. If he love Nigeria so much,
why did he allow his son to be born abroad or acquire overseas nationality? Nigerian elites, which he is part of, are fond of telling people not to japa, while they enjoy the spoils of the system that have impoverished majority of the citizens

I am black... I boldly support racism against blacks all over Europe.... The whites fight their government through both organize and un-organized protest .. forcing them to change for better and make the country a better place..

But in Africa, when the government launder national resources or do anti growth and development policies, the people complain and next, they gather funds and run to Europe who stood against their government and fought for it's development to make better country...

Shame on Africans

I really dislike the insincerity from them.
I’m not team japa by all means but you can’t discourage people from the doing the same thing you did that benefitted you. The same thing you’ve refused to give up is what you’re asking people not to pursue. Is that not hypocrisy?.
