You do realize that there is a railway incorporated into the design of the coastal road that terminates at Jakande?
That benefits only Lagos. Coastal railway crosses up to 9 states

The allignment of the Lagos-Calabar Highway will also contain the Lagos-Calabar Railway.

However, the railway will stop at the Jakande area of Lekki (without reaching Victoria Island) because the area from Jakande to Victoria Island is heavily built up and they had to use a narrower right of way in order to prevent excessive demolition of buildings.

Why can't the FG key into this, and make transport by train available allover the country.

I know NRC still have trains operating, but it doesn't go every, like road transport. It's even safer to transport goods by train track, rather by road all the time.
Other state governor should also do their part. ..

Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority LAMATA @Lamataonline
Green Line on Track

Following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in China for the construction of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Green Line, the Lagos State Government made a significant move today for the commencement of its development.

The government conducted a site visit to advance the realization of the Green Line rail project.

A delegation comprising representatives from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Federal Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), China Harbour Point, Nexant Consulting, and Advanced Engineering Consultants (AEC) participated in the inspection.

The primary objective of the site visit was to familiarize the construction company with the project's right of way.

This information will be crucial for completing their comprehensive feasibility study and subsequently determining the most optimal approach for constructing the Green Line.

The Green Line rail project, spanning a total of 67 kilometers, is envisioned in two phases.

The initial phase will cover 33 kilometers, terminating at Omu Creek in Sangotedo.

The site visit was hosted by LAMATA and included key personnel such as Engr. Olasukanmi Okusaga, Director of Rail Transport at LAMATA, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works & Infrastructure, Engr. Lateef Somide, CEO of AEC, a consulting firm, Dr. Abiola Agunbiade, and Paula Faniran, Head of Strategic Projects at MOFI.

This significant step marks a crucial milestone in the realization of the Green Line rail project, which promises to transform Lagos' transportation landscape and provide a more efficient and sustainable commuting option for its residents.

That's Impressive of the Lagos State Government.

Now, some buildings along the "right of way" of the Green Line rail project of 67 kilometers will have to go down.

This project would probably be rounded off in 3 years since it took a record 2 years for Lagos State to complete the much shorter, recently commissioned Red Line rail project. Some of the positives in terms of infrastructure and more coming out of Lagos State gives us (Diasporan Nigerians and Nigerians on the continent) the hope that democracy is the best for sustainable development in any developing country in the light of the growing anti-immigration in many countries. The folks just have to be CLEARLY intentional about removing all the inefficiencies in the system that can impede democracy to unleash their full potentials.

Ipinle Eko (Lagos State) is moving full steam ahead!

LAMATA originally proposed these 7 lines during the administration of Governor Bola Tinubu, but there have been some modifications since then.

1) Blue line: Okokomaiko-Marina
2) Red Line: Agbado-MMIA-Marina
3) Green Line: Lekki Airport-Marina
4) Yellow Line: Otta-Iddo
5) Purple Line: Redeemed Camp-Ojo
6) Brown Line: Mile 12 - Marina
7) Orange Line: Redeemed Camp-Marina
Green Line: Lekki Airport-Marina

If Tinubu started rail transportation rather than that useless coastal road you will still complain. You don't like the man. Simple!

Don't come here to start pretending biko
who the coastal road help? When GEJ started the railway from Lagos to Ibadan, we all commented him. Tinubu is gathering money for 2027.

Funny enough, I was going to make a post about this.

1) Why not extend the Green Line to Epe?

2) Why not extend the Blue Line to Badagry?

3) Why not extend the Brown Line to Ikorodu?

4) Why not extend the Abuja Metro to Nyanya and Mararaba?

It is very expensive to build rail systems. They have to start from somewhere and then extend it over time. All these extensions will certainly eventually be done, but it is small by small. Everything cannot be done at once.

Anyway, I wrote that those were the original plans during the Tinubu era. I also wrote that the plans have been modified.

The Sanwo-Olu Administration has modified the Brown Line into an Orange Line.

But it will take time and money before it is built.
I've been thinking this from the jump about Ikorodu but specifically Ikorodu Road. They can construct a tram line that starts from Jibowu along the middle of Ikorodu Road that runs to Ikorodu itself using and taking over the existing BRT path of way.

Plus if they're clever and have the know how they can make it loop around the Lekki - Epe Expressway back to Jibowu eliminating the need for a dedicated Green Line, it could be our answer to the 'Circle Line (LU)' or 'The Loop (CTA)'.

That was the original route of the metro, but it was scrapped because they would have to demolish a lot of buildings (just imagine the extent of the demolition and compensation). However, the right of way of the national rail line has enough space with less need to demolish buildings.

Right I see, though if taking over the existing BRT path that is along most but all of Ikorodu Road that will eliminate the need for building demolishing as the path of way already exists, can't speak for the Lekki-Epe expressway.

Sometimes making way for progress comes with casualties but if a success would be (mostly) worth it.
