how will they access the oil platforms in the middle of the ocean Using boat is slow and risky due to piracy.

I once went for a stock count on an oil platform off akwa ibom coast with helicopter. I was scared make i no lie 🥲

The government need to investigate the criminality going on in this industry.

You are made to pay for offshore safety permit before going offshore.

The payment is in USD and renewable after a few years but funny enough, no training or safety kit whatsoever is ever provided after collecting the money.

The payment is not made to the federal government but some funny company .

Now that this guy's are dead, what will the companies collecting money for OSP do for their family, possibly nothing.

OSP renewal is yearly after payment of $580 as at the last time I checked.

I've asked this question before, what exactly is this payment for when one already paid to have BOSIET or HUET training and certification.

I learnt the OSP was initially for foreigners only but was later made compulsory for all. Funny enough the account collecting the money is domiciled outside the country

This chopper in question was a six seater chopper and more of chartered chopper and not a commercial chopper. The minister needs to provide further information on why an executive chopper is used to convey offshore worker particularly NNPC offshore fields. Who approved that chopper? The likes of Bristow and Caverton helicopters are there but no, they won't use them. Now they have killed innocent young Nigerians due to their greed. God dey!

Have you done BOSIET before? If you have done BOSIET and boarded a chopper before you will understand the difference between real life scenario and the training

The S76 is a twin engine aircraft that should be able to execute safe landing in water if one engine fails. There's also the autorotation trick they teach pilots if both engines fail.

Helicopters are notoriously difficult flying machines and it's easier to fly the world's biggest jumbo jet than flying a helicopter, and enter one at your own risk and prepare your will while saying your last prayer.

While no Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal was received, manual efforts to plot the location of the accident are underway.

Questions should be asked why a chopper flying a vast terrain as the Atlantic will not have such a basic important equipment.

My concern for years.

What a very sad news. My thoughts are with their families.

All jobs have their own risks. May their souls Rest In Peace.

That's why I tell people that the risk associated with offshore E & P outweighs the pay. I begged to be moved back to the Lagos office after years of offshore work. The transportation and operational risks are too much. If chopper doesn't crash, the well may blow out..too much risk mehn but it's a rare privilege to have the experience still.
