We Must Restart The Livestock Sector - President Tinubu by Pbatmedia(op): 6:22pm On Oct 24, 2024
ON LIVESTOCK, PRESIDENT TINUBU SPEAKS;

“The potential is immense: With 563 million chickens, 58 million cattle, 124 million goats, 60 million sheep, and 16 million pigs, Nigeria is the leading livestock producer in West Africa. Yet, despite this vast resource, we face stark realities.

“It is about time that we do it right. A country of over 200 million people and cannot serve our children one pint of milk in a classroom per day? That is not right.”

“We didn’t see the investment opportunities. We didn’t see the economy of livestock in the past. Now that we have seen it, we must work together to restart the sector.”

“The long-term neglect of the livestock sector has weighed heavily on the country's import bills, with milk and dairy products accounting for $1.2-1.5 billion.

“Yes, we can do it. We can bring prosperity to our people. We can feed our children. From grass, we can achieve grace. We can contribute so much to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provide decent jobs.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
24th October, 2024.

It's important to identify the cause of decay before trying to fix the issue .

Feed cost is rising therefore increasing cost of production and diminishing returns.

Several farmers are shutting down because they couldn't cope and most government funded relief materials are being embezzled by the people tasked to distribute them .

The same reason nomadic herders prefer free roaming is because of the cost of production in a ranch .

What the government should work on is to make sure feed Mills are operational ,low taxed(to lower the price of the output), and more credit facilities.

Can someone kindly explain to the reading public, the rational behind inaugurating the Livestock Ministry (while we have The Ministry of Agriculture), while scrapping the Niger Delta Ministry?

Why is tinubu so vicious and ruthless with the way he tries to marginalise and deprive the former Eastern Nigeria, but will be ready to bend to breaking point just to impress the far north?

Go to school, you will not gree.

Not even one and half year, you suddenly approximate it two years.

Tinubu is resetting the country. You are inconsequential. So you do not matter in the equation.

If you are tired of the reset, please Japa.

You think the country will just jump into El Dorado.

On Tinubu's mandate I still stand till 2031.

We are going to fix this country.

We have the resources, we have the population, we just need to put the right structures in place and we are good to go.

The lack off respect and appreciation for other not your kinsmen, that is inherent in your culture, is part of what makes you people so loathed. You lot are godawful. As long as it ain't Igbo, it must be thrashed and insulted. If you know any Igbo politician that has achieved even 5% of what Tinubu has, since 1999, then we will agree your insult against his universally lauded intellect stands.

Obi, your greatest, flees from Party to Party, which most know is a display of lack of intellect to develop and sustain political platforms, and you Hypocrites proclaim him a genius. Even APGA he inherited free of charge, he abandoned and virtually destroyed. Leaving Bianca Ojukwu to lay a curse on him.

Tinubu single-handedly built ACN and made it Nigeria's main opposition Party to PDP by 2013 before the Party collapsed it's structure into the APC Jagaban helped to birth. Feats regarded as genius and legendary universally. Yet to you uncouth lot, born without the ability to be respectful towards others, "he is not intelligent". Who is intelligent? You? Your father?

You people, because you are primed to hate all others and see them as threats you must conquer and dominate, will never be fit to lead a multicultural and mjlti-religion nation like Nigeria. Whenever not in charge anywhere, you are then only fit to insult, destroy, be divisive and insultive. May God heal you lot.

Absolutely. BAT is correct. Livestock development should not be rocket science given our population, landmass and potential capacity. The Netherlands is a relatively small Country but a livestock giant with fantastic agriculture Universities always training new entrant to sustain the Netherlands position as very profitable producer of livestock.

We must simply take a modern, structured and scientific approach to developing our livestock farming sector. We work on local factors in Nigeria and then boost with external assistance like sponsoring the training of thousands of Nigeria's brightest potential livestock farmers to Wageningen University in the Netherlands that is one of the best in the world. They can then bee supported to set up science and tech-driven livestock farms and ranches in all States of Nigeria if possible to establish Nigeria the livestock giant of Africa. The f at is that Nigeria is still rudimentary and far behind in sense of adoptation of best global stabdard science and technology-driven farming.

With measured and science/research driven approach to problems, rather than the disorganised and myopic mess of the past, Nigeria can conquer most of her major problems.

If it is not you and your generation who are the "STUPID IDIOT" you call BAT then why are you or any of your family member not in his position delivering the governance you think Nigeria needs?

Yes Nigerian leaders are corrupt and self-serving but trust me when I say most are far more intelligent and better-educated than most of you who sit online foaming at the mouth and insulting them.

No doubt you are Obidients. Want to know the personification of a "STUPID IDIOT" political leader? Na your messiah Obi the Agulu fraud whose leadership CV is empty and only pays home to gross incompetence and abysmal failure.

I don't know if it's ignorance on ur part or mischief but u ought to know that this Livestock Ministry was set up partly to address d issue of herders grazing their cattle on farms, it's aimed to ultimately remove them from that practice and free crop farmers from their vices. But many of u don't think beyond d surface.

How many Nigerians can afford to eat livestock today
These folks are disconnected from those they claim to lead
Just doing everything for political mileage and none for any serious development
We don't even have comparative advantage for livestock in West Africa not to mention Africa!!
