SilasGreenback:Does the law punish you for what it imagines you might do or what you actually did?? Secondly the emphasis on the number of parcels is yours. Mine was on the substance itself. No one should be imprisoned for more than a year for anything to do with weed. |

PlasmaTV:I guess you skipped the part where N50 million fine option was offered, which means that she will not spend a single day in prison. But on another matter, the following" "She explained that she accepted the offer because she needed the money to fund her master's degree program in Canada." is bullshit in a hand-basket. Anyone who has spend even a few hours in Canada will know that there are all kinds of very low interest student loans and subsidies that are easily available to Canadian citizens and even their permanent residents(Canadian equivalent of the U.S green card), all that is needed to qualify is to be enrolled in a Canadian university. She probably made up that cock and bull story to gain the sympathy of the judge. |

Sleekfingers:It is quite unusual maybe they believed she was coerced . How many of the Nigerians caught are given that rulling ? |

rickleye:How many Nigerians caught for drugs are really serving their sentences in Nigeria? Most of them get an option of fine..... I have some first hand information about that. Being forced is not an excuse or the reason. The judge used her discretion. It is better she pay the fine. And definitely her country drug law enforcement agency will be contacted. She will be arrested in Canada. And sentenced according to their law. In some cases , if she wasn't born in Canada or grew up there , they might revoke her citizenship. |

Sleekfingers:Really !! Wow your first paragraph is a real eye opener to me. I would have thought we would me More strict on that as the damage it does to kids and users of the drugs but I guess my ignorance on the matter shows . |

rickleye:Lots of drug cases are swept under the carpets .......it is all about the money. As a matter of fact, drug cases are cases most judges don't like to preside over . Due to the high connected people in the drug business. And also poses a lot of risk to them. Strict laws is not the problem. But the implementation is the problem. I know of several people who werebusted for drugs in Lagos Island. Their houses are not far from our family house....... After about a year when I visited the UK, I saw two of them in an African restaurant in London. |
