Under water evacuation and egress will not work when the helicopter strikes the ocean surface with such force that it renders the occupants of the craft immobilized and disoriented. Of course you damn well know that in maritime and aviation training, it is emphasised that under water evacuation and egress from a crashed helicopter has a very minute probability of success. So what rubbish are you saying?

Underwater escape training with hatches in position must be mandatory for all who fly off-shore or over water for a living, and further research should be conducted to design a better standard hatch and jettison system.

A formal investigation of the problem of location, operation and jettison of escape windows and hatches of helicopters following ditching was conducted in a new simulator. There were 48 aircrew who attempted 298 escapes using a variety of 24 escape routes and 9 different types of escape hatches. Overall results, while superficially indicating that the task was easy, in fact revealed many unforeseen problems. Specifically, there was no standardization of hatches and levers, there were problems with location and operation of levers principally due to poor design, and an ergonomics study has not been conducted to investigate the problem. Underwater escape training with hatches in position must be mandatory for all who fly off-shore or over water for a living, and further research should be conducted to design a better standard hatch and jettison system.

some of them their families are abroad, some in Lagos, some dont use flashy cars to keep low profile. If for example they got settled of 100m naira from shell. Will the wife even remember one car worth 1m naira dey port harcourt? 🤭

Aeroplane is far better and safer because helicopter uses single engine. I am a trained engineer, the principle upon which helicopter operates makes it unsafe compared to aeroplane

Three victims of the eight crew members who were feared dead in Thursday's helicopter crash at Bonny waterways in Rivers state have been recovered and airlifted to Port Harcourt.

In an exclusive video made available to our correspondent, the corpses of the three victims were seen tied to a stretcher into a waiting helicopter off an oil vessel helipad.

Operatives of the Nigerian Navy and the owners of the helicopter were seen coordinating the airlifting of the bodies as other staff members watch the exercise.
Meanwhile, search for the remaining five bodies continue in the high sea by divers of the private firm and operatives of the Nigerian Navy.

The crashed helicopter was said to have departed the Air Force base in Port Harcourt and bound for Antan OML 123 field with two crew members and six passengers before it was said to have ditched into the ocean close to the company platform.

The Rivers state police command Spokesperson Grace Iringe-koko in a statement, commiserated with the families of the victims, as she acknowledged that a staff member of the firm reported the incident to the command.

You don't evacuate a chopper until it's submerged in water.

Count a few seconds then you may egress the window.

This doesn't guarantee anything as hypothermia, injury, sharks and drowning may still render your survival unlikely.

I watched a US Navy video where they were taught how to survive a submerged helicopter, my brother! 99.99999% of normal human beings won't survive it.
Panic! Pitch darkness! Drowning! Ticking time! Etc.

Not modern Helicopters. Some operators in Nigeria use ONLY twin engine Helicopters. The ill-fated Helicopter is a twin engine type.
