Wike needs to investigate the building inspectors. Somebody had to be signing off that the construction met the set standards. But how so many people got trapped in a building under construction? ... were they construction workers? From the look of the rubble.... was it concrete blocks? ... or mud blocks? 1 Like |

Abuja having a building collapse  ?.....the same Abuja that follows due process in building construction?What is SON doing concerning the gauge on rods In the market we have Standard gauge and cut gauge all have different prices, this should not stand pls....On the part of the Client, he may have cried, pleaded and out of pity , the Contractor or Builder , Structural Engineer and Architect neglected the rule of maximum usage of materials on site and adhered to minimum usage forgetting that each structure comes with its unique structural designs... Or Perhaps, the Client thought Building construction is a business empowerment program, and decided to give out the contract to his Wife's younger brother who happens to build houses in the village for clients or in OND in one Polytechnic and felt he can handle the project... What of the Contractors who may go for substandard just to cut cost and have huge gains Building construction is like a novel, remove one leaf, the unity of the whole novel collapses...Pls as a Client , always make sure your Architect is in your building project, let him be an intermediary, supervising , reading the structural Engineer's specifications , making sure standards are used, and sticking to the original WD and don't push him away after producing the Architectural working drawing, make sure he organizes a meeting with all other sub-contractors at least once a month to checkmate so many things about your project... 40 people trapped , millions of naira lost , government to take over the property, who is losing ?.....the Client... 1 Like |

Failure of regulations...just BQ alone I had to tell my Engineer...16 inches Rods at the lower and 12inches on the 2nd floor...they told me it doesn't matter. At some point, govt must ensure proper regulations... Houses of 3 floors or more should have steel framework...I will continue to say my own. If you can't afford a steel framework, limit it to up and down...and If you do steel framework, it must be approved before you continue construction. Dapromzy333: |

I know building materials are extremely expensive no thanks to the harsh and wicked economic policies of balablu...however,that should not be the reason to go below the standard required to erect a structure or building! One of the reasons why we keep having collapsed structures is because the government agency mandated with the responsibility of checking, monitoring and regulation in terms of buildings are not doing their jobs! They should be handing out severe punishments to these wicked and selfish owners who don't keep to standard! All they need is to use just one reckless owner of a collapsed structure as a scapegoat and a form of deterrent to others! |

Please be objective and stop commenting on the subject you are not familiar with, for your information I am not an Engineer. I only know about this because I am a user and recently went to market to buy rod and I discovered the 16mm we have in the market this days is less thank 12mm that i bought last year, 16mm was boldly engraved on it by the manufacturer with the manufacturer with the manufacturer name and the date it was produced This issue is already befor national assemblies for probing. masseratti: |
