The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has slammed Remi Oseni, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, for accusing him of mispriority.

DAILY POST recalls that Oseni had called out Umahi over the deteriorating road network in the country during a house hearing on Thursday.

Oseni had said Umahi’s focus is on funds, while neglecting what should be his priorities.

Reacting to Oseni’s statement, Umahi, while addressing reporters on Monday, said the lawmaker had not attained half of what he has achieved in life.

The former governor said he would not join issues with the lawmaker out of the respect he has for the Speaker of House of Representatives and the National Assembly.

He said, “His (Oseni) time is very damaging to the wonderful institution of the National Assembly, especially the 10th national assembly. For the respect of the Speaker and, of course, the Senate President and the National Assembly institution that I belong to, I will refrain myself from joining issues with him.

“He said I have failed… No one in life ever said I have failed and I have never failed in anything I am involved in and if he likes, he should go and check my pedigree.

“I believe that God has to be with him to attain half of what I have attained in life. So, I will not join issues with him because I have tremendous respect for Mr Speaker and the National Assembly.

“But I will try to clarify some things. He said I was involved in some issues… Yes, he is right because he sounded as if he was representing the contractors and what were the issues? The issue of Variation of Price and that was a very terrible programme that was eroding the little resources we put in the budget.”

Which level is he even referring to? Oh! He became a governor, senator, and minister. Is Umahi the only one that has attained such a level? And what makes him think that the Rep member won't attain such a level, especially in a country like Nigeria where anyone can become anything?

Instead of giving answers to the questions raised by the Rep member about why our federal roads are in a worse state, he is busy engaging in a dick measuring contest.

In your role as a Minister, you have failed woefully.

Almost all the federal roads are in bad shape, you received a budget of 300 billion. You and your master Tpain chose to focus on the coastal road that is a white elephant. A project that can't be completed in the next 10 years.
Why not use that fund to complete ongoing projects and renovate the bad roads.
But the only way you can steal is to award white elephant projects... The coastal highway was awarded to Hitech owned by the Chagouris who Tinubu visits every month in France.

Come on.
I like the minister but this is not the way to respond to criticism from House members.
It's their duty to call out such issues and it's the job of the minister to give a professional and detailed response. Not what you have achieved in life and who you are. That's not very professional.
