The House of Representatives has broken its silence on the allegation against Alexander Ikwegh, member representing Aba North/South Federal Constituency of Abia State.

In a viral video, the federal lawmaker was seen assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.

He had boasted that he would deal with him and not even the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, could come to the driver’s rescue.

The incident has triggered outrage among Nigerians, with many calling for justice for Abuwatseya.

In a statement on Monday evening, Rotimi Akin Rotimi, Jr, spokesman of the House of Representatives, said investigation was ongoing.

“The House of Representatives is monitoring media reports concerning an alleged incident involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh (APGA, Abia). These reports, which have garnered widespread media coverage and public attention, detail accusations of a physical confrontation with an e-hailing driver, Citizen Stephen Abuwatseya, and the use of threatening language.”

“The 10th Assembly, House of Representatives, takes these allegations very seriously. As elected officials, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability in our official engagements and privately. Any behaviour that falls short of these standards is a matter of concern, and we are committed to addressing such issues with the utmost seriousness.

“We are aware that the matter is now before the Nigeria Police, and we urge the public to allow the due process of investigation to unfold. We welcome further engagement from the public on the subject, which can be shared via email at akintunde.rotimi@nass.gov.ng, akinrotimi@gmail.com, even as we continue to monitor the situation.

“We remain dedicated to upholding the values of accountability, transparency, and ethical behavior that define the 10th Assembly, House of Representatives. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

The man is a big disgrace, such evil and unconscionable behavior from a federal lawmaker is unacceptable

His political career is over in Nigeria, the house should suspend him immediately and the people of Abia north should commence the process of recalling him

We must sanitize this country from every corner, I don't know why the few youths we have elected to right the wrongs in the system are doing the opposite

You cannot be elected to uphold the law.....and then you break the law with such impunity.
He has no business being a lawmaker. He makes the rest of you look bad.
If you dont reprimand/get rid of him, he will do it abroad one day, then CNN,BBC will make fun of us.
If this was in UK/USA, the bolt driver will file restraining order or protective order against the house of rep member. The police will enforce it that the House of rep member cannot be within 5 miles of the Bolt driver. If this includes the national assembly. Then he will have to be recalled.
He has threatened to harm him on video. How are we sure he wont carry out the threat ?

There is so much hypocrisy about this issue. Just because the man is an elected senator don't mean he should stop being human being.

That's one of the thing I hate about being known/popular in real life, things that others do that no one cares, you can no longer do it.

You cannot assault someone for disrespect.
He is a law-maker. Some positions come with a lot of expectations.
If the Bolt driver had slapped him back.....How is that different from animals in the jungle ?
Law maker should have shown restrain.
He has no business being a lawmaker.
In the USA/UK. He will face the house disciplinary committee, and he would be asked to resign.

Almost All Nigerian politicians have this god complex. Even a local government chairman or a counsellor feels that way.

I have spent more than 10yrs living with politicians and working with them, mostly from my family members.

Very rude boy. His gesture and voice tune shows it all. He even put on a camera to capture. . So does he intend to cash-out from public sympathy via social media?

Terrible ,rigid, and poor customer service skill from that bolt employee.
