Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings on Monday night.

This means he is the third-highest-ranked Nigerian player in the history of the awards.

Victor Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, remains the highest-ranked.

Osimhen finished 8th last year after he helped the Serie A club win the title.

Nwankwo Kanu is in second place after he ranked 11th in the 1996 Ballon d’Or.

Kanu was more prominent during his time. It was not an easy feat to make it to Top 11 in the era of great footballers like Mathias Sammer, Ronaldo da Lima, Rivaldo, Figo, Roy Keane, Del Piero, Klinsman, Cafu, Djorkaef, Beckham, Davor Suker, Raul, Shearer, Desailly, Paulo Maldini, Roberto Carlos, Eric Cantona, Gabriel Batistuta and so many others.

Players I listed up there were very hot before & during 1995/96 football season. Kanu made it to Top 11 same year.
Zidane was a great footballer 💯, no doubt about it. 🫡🫡 But he was still at Bordeaux around that time. He joined Juventus in 1996. Personally, I started taking notice of Zizou in 1997. I'll call him a late comer, but one of the greatest ever.

You know in school, everybody has their position after grading. All players in the world have a rating score. In case you're not thinking this, some professional players are ranked in the 500th position currently.
