jaephoenix:The books in the Bible weren't originally English. We've struggled to make them readable in English. While some are trying to directly translate those books, others are deliberately trying to pass a preconceived narrative through their translation. Your reply: Yes. Many versions of the Bible have been mistranslated, willfully and ignorantly. |

Wainey:The problems with your claim are numerous but the major thing here is the stories in the Bible are written around the Israelites and their God of Israel. The God of Israel is written to have sworn that His one and only people are Israelites — those born of the bloodline of Jacob from their mother's womb. The same God of Israel declared a sealing of the prophesies and visions— His Old Law of Moses — some 1900 years ago. ![]() So, rightly when a Nigerian — a non-Israelite whom Jesus Christ warned should not be handed that which is Holy — proclaims that the same God of Israel granted him or her some miracle, it is right to doubt the claim. There remains no direct or indirect connection between the deities of Nigeria with the God of Israel. ![]() |

PulsingPurple:So how did u know they were mistranslations when you weren't there during the translation process, you don't have access to the original manuscripts and you can't even read the original language to ascertain in fact that they were mistranslated? |

jaephoenix:After taking days to reply, I thought you'd be making a more direct point. Can't you just make the final point you've been driving at. I understand the need to take things easy and move slowly, one question at a time. But honestly, that would go well if the conversation was spontaneous, not all these hit-and-run messages. That aside, it's common knowledge that some of the manuscripts and scrolls from which the scriptures were translated are still in existence, and are open to anyone who cares to do a lookup. There is also something called a Bible concordance, where each word/phrase on the Bible is cross referenced to its exact Hebrew/Greek/etc source word/phrase. So a person having trouble assimilating the logic of a sentence in a scriptural reading can easily go back to read the exact Hebrew/Greek version, compare the meaning, usage/context of the original version, go as deep as understanding etymology, background influence, etc of a word. The possibilities are limitless. After all these, the person's sense of reasoning can add all these together and effectively re-translate that translation of the Bible. The people who offered to translate everything only made the job much easier, so we read, hoping we'll get access to the right understandings. Lastly, it's not just a book, you already know it's a spiritual kinda book (to us). So we pray for a small voice in our minds to help us explain each part as we read. In the end, it's every man with his own understanding, two different people understand a passage from different perspectives, based on what they've been learning with. And then like minds gather together and agree with themselves, building and improving on previous knowledge. We also take time reviewing the so called mistranslations and ascertaining that it is indeed an error, just like scientists would investigate hypothesis. Good thing free speech is somewhat allowed and we can say it out, if we conclude that there's mistranslations circulating. All this is to say I've said as much as I can say, in an effort to end this unnecessary deviation. You should make a direct point. Pardon any bad grammar too. |

PulsingPurple:Are you aware some of us have jobs and don't always come every time to Nairaland. If you want a debate in the Bible, dedicate a day and time lets do it. About the topic, please where are those original manuscripts and do you have access to it? If you don't, then you don't have a case |
