NEC Recommends Withdrawal Of Tax Reform Bill by Wisdomkosi(op): 5:23pm On Oct 31, 2024
The National Economic Council (NEC) has advised that the Tax Reform Bill, currently in the National Assembly, be withdrawn.

The NEC is led by Vice-President Kashim Shettima and includes state governors as members.

After their meeting on Thursday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that the NEC decided to withdraw the bill due to disagreements and concerns raised by various groups.

“NEC noted the need for sufficient alignment on the proposed reforms and recommended the withdrawal of the tax reform bills,” he stated.

“We saw the gap and decided that there is a need for a wider consultation,”
he added.

What is left for this govt to do again? Instead of looking for ways to reduce this hardship, T-pain wants to pile up more hardship on us.

Tinubu is a disaster.

It should not be totally withdrawn, there's room to refix the contending parts of the bill. Every region stands to gain a lot from tax reform bills. It is time for the federal lawmakers to use their brains if they have any.

What is good about increasing VAT percentage instead of reducing it.

As if they will use the money for the good of the society.

They are just increasing the pool of money to loot

That's not my point. They want to reform the tax so that each state will keep about 60% of the tax while the FG takes 40% instead of the previous method, where all the tax is collected by FG and then redistributed to all the states based on certain criteria.
Re: NEC Recommends Withdrawal Of Tax Reform Bill by Iolo(m): 10:44pm On Oct 31, 2024
Nigeria sadly has a culture of foot dragging its way through any serious reforms under the guise of consultations.

Same thing happened to the PIB reforms, constitution amendment and several others that got stalled at the National Assembly for several decades. Tinubu and the tax team need to roll up their sleeves and work through whatever issues there are. Push through the less contentious issues and continue reshaping the rest till they have the numbers for a vote.

is there anything to suggest that they are even educated?
Check illiteracy chat in Africa, not even in Nigeria and you will see that Northern Nigeria tops that chat. Nigeria is ranked world headquarters of poverty and back home we know that kudos goes to the Northern part of the country.

They are more educated but yet, they are on every street in south and middle belt begging. They are educated with highest number of malnutrition rate.

Very dirty and unkept, smelling like rotten eggs. People who does not take a shower for weeks.

The wire one turn dress for 15 years with turn legs even during dry seasons.

Very dirty educated people with brown teeth...

The problem is you are not looking at the main aim of the bill.

Tinubu is using textbook economics thinking it will play out exactly as the books have said. He did the same with subsidy, it backfired on Nigerians. He did again with forex, it exploded on our face. This one will annihilate us.

What he thinks is that the bill will cause states to sit up and economic growth will happen in every state just as textbooks analyze. But what will actually happen is state fighting states and tax paying organisations will be caught in between fight and transfer all the aggression on Nigerians once more increasing inflation. It will be bad for many companies as states will either force industries to locate factories in their state or risk hostile state laws limiting the companies supply chain. This means state borders will be manned by state tax agencies aim at frustrating targeted businesses that dont pay tax to them. This essentially means Nigerians will pay more to get products

Tinubu is an ideal textbook economist but has no understanding of real economics.

Democracy is a game of numbers and unity

And the South can never be united

That's why Kano will be destroying bottles of alcohol but will still be enjoying VAT from it form the South (the illiterates)
