WizardOfNG:pls the small tax that Nigerians are paying, what have we achieved with it? Aside the high stanadard of living that politicians enjoy from the revenue, what else can we brag about? Our roads are in terrible states all over south, we dig bore holes, our hospitals, even the small ones that we have are in terrible state. Some of u here justifies nonsense. Nigeria's problem is structural and not all these tax. If we dont attend to the structural problems and turn Nigeria into true federal states like the US or multi nation state like the UK, we are all wasting our time. |

The tax bill, with what i have read so far, is deceptive. To be clear, it contains some good initiatives, but they are coached in ulterior motives. For example, the increase in VAT. Aside from the inevitable increase in goods and services, this would mainly further impoverish the masses because the political office holders rarely carry the burden of vat payment since almost every thing they buy is paid for by the government. Even after leaving office, they still find a way to ensure the government foots thier bills. Another area is the reduction proposed for companies. On the surface, it looks good. But looking deeper, one can see that most of these companies are fronts for the same politicians. So essentially what they are simply doing is reducing the cost of business for themselves. For instance, what business does bat do? What investments does he have? How much tax does he pay? |

The below is specific to the new PAYE tax. Typically I would yab Taiwo and co but on the tax reform, after looking at the details. It is a better tax rate for people earning less than 50m per year. It is very rich people earning over 50m naira per month that will see their tax go up. I advise people to check the numbers. The information is out there. The pushback is driven by those who will pay more. They are trying to lobby the govt. |

garykoeman:The North are the real enemies of Nigeria,as when they know that anything developmental, they will opposed it,since the 1960 call for independence of Herbert Macaulay time! So,many good people of Nigeria, always seeing things in the Future will back this Overhauling Tax and Streamline them for Nigeria Economic and Developmental Growth but we don't see the bitter Elupe, the PDP Sympathersers here but you see them on irrelevant religious groups, where they benefits themselves, their pockets than the Nigeria as a Country. They are greedy, wicked and very Unpatriotic,as they want Nigeria to remain same, where they can use tribal and religion as a ticket for Manipulation.e.g when they go to London,Dubai, they know how to obey Tax laws, but here in Nigeria, the hide what is taxable and will bring rhetorics to Economic matters. Very Shameful indeed. |

WizardOfNG:Forget all these stories. There's no connection between having world best standard tax policies or whatever you can call it to having a world class standard of living.....This is absolutely impossible in Nigeria. A place where politicians are bigger that government institutions that are supposedly to be independent,a place where the rich and wealthy are bigger than institutions that are supposed to remand their in prison,a place where corrupt politicians who occupy government positions and institutions are not accountable and can't be held accountable for mismanagement of public funds and abuse of powers. Lastly, it's not whether the policies are perfect or world standard, the real issue is which man or woman, boy or girl is ready to do that which will make that world class standard made in Nigeria. Some of these people have been in politics since the creation of Nigeria and their villages are still living in darkness, imagine reading in the news that a community after over hundred years of existence is celebrating having a toilet built. |

maxiuc:You have a point but we are where we are I.e totally fcked because of other President who did not do as you suggested to grow various sources of income for Nigeria. Tinubu cannot now do that overnight. As I am sure, Tinubu will not stop trying to diversify our economy away from dependence on crude so we have more income to use on capital and development expenditure. Nonetheless, it is still good to collect tax efficiently and optimally. No economic tool that can help to turn our nation round should be ignored. |
